More importantly, where the hell is his pseudo-daughter?
After a few moments he takes out his journal and speaks tersely into it, directing it towards both a certain headmaster and his brother, and the daughter of said brother.]
Rupert, Helios... I can't find Vivi. She's up and entirely disappeared.
Vivi? Where are you?
[Somewhat irritably, despite the fear in his voice:] Is this another one of those bloody natural Shifts again? I hope the Malnosso get it under control soon enough.
[If and when he gets any word (or even before then) he'll be out searching for wherever Vivi might be. ( ... )

Okay, deep breaths. It's just a Shift. No one is where they're supposed to be. She's probably fine. She has to be fine. It's certainly not Robert's fault that she's gone.]
She, she hasn't checked in with you?
Reply
Giles' voice is worried enough that Robert can pick it out. He'd always been bad at that.]
No. Not yet. Perhaps she isn't awake yet, or something.
... I can only hope, anyway. [Giles probably can tell Robert's in his characteristic half-lope, the fastest he's usually able to manage, due to the footfall noises and his breathing. Being inside most of his life hadn't made him especially healthy.]

[He hates shifts like this, shifts that take everyone from where they're supposed to be and put them somewhere else. It can be hard enough keeping people close to you in this place, without the shifts making it harder.]
I'll look around for her. I'm already late, a little longer won't make a difference today. And I'll let the others know.
["The others" being his siblings, but not his children. He can't let them know that another of their siblings is missing.]
Keep calling for her in the meantime.

I'll get to the school once she has been located. Hopefully that won't be too much longer. [Would it be hoping for too much to hope she would be at least somewhere safe?]
Reply
I'm sure she's fine.
[Except that she's probably not, otherwise she'd have answered by now.]
...she won't miss school, at least.

Or his employee.
But it's just a silly Shift. It means nothing, right? So why was he having an affair with his employee...?]
And the other teachers... are they all accounted for? Perhaps this is just teleportation or something. That seems the most likely explanation. Though I didn't go anywhere... how peculiar.

As far as the others go, I've only heard from Kennedy so far. Really, this is probably just a...very specific and limited bout of teleporting.

What a time for it to occur, what with most people preparing for that festival. [Most people, because Robert is going to be avoiding it like the plague if he can help it. He's never believed in this "Great One" nonsense, and a festival for it just seems silly.
Still, if Vivi really wants to go, he'll take her. Or maybe he'll find some time to go between employee shifts at the magitechnology factory.]
... [He stops, still breathing hard.] I still can't find Vivi... I'd send a city-wide broadcast, but... [Uncomfortably:] You know what they'd all think.
Not that they don't think it already.

[...yeah, this is Giles not caring right now, Robert. He sighs in evident exasperation.]
I already did. And I've asked a few of the other students to watch out for her, just in case.

... I appreciate it, Rupert. [They like you more. Maybe they'll help you.]
I... can't help but feel like a failure, here... I know it's unreasonable to expect myself to have anticipated this, but... [Faced with the enormity of the little-girl-who-isn't-quite-his-daughter-but-feels-so-much-like-one, he can't help but be afraid, can't help but feel helpless.]
... Gods, Rupert, I don't know what I'd do if something happened to her...
[She's the daughter I never had, that I never can have.]

It is unreasonable. You're doing everything you can. [Or you would be, if you'd stop worrying about your reputation and ask for help.
...god, he's a bastard when it comes to Vivi.
It isn't as though he's not sincerely grateful that Robert's on hand right now. Every pair of eyes helps, and the scientist has always had a knack for finding the little girl whenever she wanders out of sight.
But still. His youngest makes him emotional. He just hopes Robert understands that. He'll make it up to him later.]
And if something happens, I know what to do.
But it won't.

[So it isn't as if Robert's completely resisted asking. It's just... he doesn't have many people to ask that will actually help him.]
... If she doesn't turn up soon, I will address the entire village. But it's more likely they would listen to you, or maybe Helios. Still... it's worth a try, I suppose...
[Robert understands, even if he can't really tell how Rupert feels right now. Vivi makes him emotional too in a way that no other child he's ever taught ever has. He's more than just her teacher, now. And she's more than just his student. And Giles' family is more than just her family.]

Daisy, as well. She's certainly competent enough.

... I'm going there right now...
[True to his word, the scientist breaks into his fail-run, not even bothering to turn the journal off so that Rupert can hear the goings-on as they occur.]

Thank God. I'll let Vash and Helios know.
I'll meet you there.
