More importantly, where the hell is his pseudo-daughter?
After a few moments he takes out his journal and speaks tersely into it, directing it towards both a certain headmaster and his brother, and the daughter of said brother.]
Rupert, Helios... I can't find Vivi. She's up and entirely disappeared.
Vivi? Where are you?
[Somewhat irritably, despite the fear in his voice:] Is this another one of those bloody natural Shifts again? I hope the Malnosso get it under control soon enough.
[If and when he gets any word (or even before then) he'll be out searching for wherever Vivi might be. ( ... )

I must commend the Malnosso on their thorough jobs in that regard. They nearly always manage to put things right in the end.
But yes, thank you for keeping such good care of the prototype. It is only a shame that I cannot mass-produce them as of yet... and their properties make them quite difficult for the average user to utilize... I am certain I would break my arm if I tried.

[Robert considers Daisy's points carefully.] You have some excellent suggestions, Daisy. ... And you know very well I have the ability to afford most of what we would need to do the testing...
Some of it is beyond even my financial reach, though. Such as the salvaged Third Party equipment. There is only so much we can do about that...
[Robert shakes his head a little.] Durable you may be indeed, Daisy, but your health means more to me than that. If there is anything good my parents taught me, it was exposing me to the great Luceti Valley natural philosophers and scientists, and their ethical codes...
[A little piece of Terra holds on to Robert even now, even through the filter of the AU.]

[It's something that AU Robert is alright with considering that he would normally never consider. And it's these things that will give him the most cognitive dissonance later.]
... It is a shame, though the wars are even more shameful. A pity that the Third Party are so dead-set on being a nuisance.

But you are right. Some wars must be fought.
[Robert wonders why it feels strange to say that.]
Regardless, Daisy, I will certainly consider your proposals. Perhaps if somebody will assist with any medical necessities...
... And thank you for offering to assist with Vivi. If it gets too problematic, perhaps I could ask the Blue Rogues to help. Assuming they will accept.

Well, I am glad that we have dedicated individuals like yourself to work the military. Without your presence, Luceti Valley would be in much more danger. [Really, why does it mildly bother him - on some level he can't even really comprehend - to say that? He's said it a thousand times before. He's even overseen some of the military programs himself. Why is it unsettling some little part of him now?
He shrugs it off mentally. It's probably just some off day.]
Rupert's son Vash is also looking for her, as is Helios, so hopefully with our combined efforts she will be located soon enough.
[And indeed she is, here specifically.]

[Oh thank gods it is her. She is alive and well and speaking clearly and not too far away he has to get there now.]
Vivi! Please get to the square and stay somewhere visible. I'll be there immediately. [Robert breaks into the closest goddamned thing he can have to a run, in essentially a beeline for the town square.
Vivi, if she's within eyesight, will see him running up soon enough, out of breath and haggard and disheveled but so damn happy to see her safe.
He might even embrace her when he can.]

Mister Hastings, do you know what happened? Was it another Shift? I woke up in this big house this morning... it wasn't mine. Or yours.

He gives the little girl a reassuring nod.] The best hypothesis so far is that it's some sort of Shift. Harmless but irritating.
[Gently:] I told your father where you were, and your older brother knows now too. Your father will probably arrive soon - I think he wanted to come see if you were okay before he gets to the school.
You won't miss much anyway. I have a feeling most of the students'll be late in these conditions.
