[Derek may notice a certain reclusive scientist flitting around in rather close proximity to one of his sons, checking the electrical equipment of the festival in a way that suggests he'd rather not be at the festival at all.

Though Robert may not know Derek very well, he probably recognizes enough about him to notice the biological parent of his foster brother. So, after a moment, he cautiously approaches the man with a nervous expression.]

...

Mr. Bliss? [Robert smiles awkwardly.] It's... been quite awhile, hasn't it.

[He's suddenly mildly ashamed. Robert has no idea what Derek does or doesn't know about his... complex relationship with Don.]

It is ALWAYS OK :)

[Derek will turn at the sound of his name, smiling at Robert even as he tries to place the face. He saw him hanging around Don, although he's probably more likely to assume they're just friends than anything; comes with trying to play years worth of catch-up with an entire village.

But he does nod.]

Hey. Yeah...it has. I'm sorry, you're...?

R-Robert Alexander Hastings. [Alright, so Derek doesn't really recognize him. It's understandable... how many years has it been, now?]

... Foster brother of your son, Donatello. [And... well... more than just that...]

[Considering Mikey was still so young that he very nearly didn't recognize his own dad when he came back? Many years...

Derek offers a hand for shaking.]

...It brings back memories, to be sure.

[After a couple of uncomfortable seconds, Robert takes that hand in his relatively-weak grip and shakes gently.]

... Same for me.

And... I'd expect so. This is one of the biggest happenings in the village, and it always draws a crowd.

[As much as Robert finds it an uncomfortable and unpleasant affair, he has to admit it has its good points.]

[In contrast, although Derek is thin and looks frail, his grip is still strong and sure, although it's obviously kept carefully gentle.]

...it's good for the village to work together on something. Kinship. Other than helping out, do you have any plans?

I may take my friend's daughter around for awhile.

Her name is Vivi... she's a beautiful little girl. [A light comes into Robert's eyes, and he smiles wide as he describes her. It's clear that he adores her, and a good portion of that adoration filters through from his canon self.]

... I may take some time with Donatello as well, if he isn't too busy... [And his smile turns shy, here.]

[And Derek's own smile becomes understanding, although when Donatello's name comes up with that expression on Robert's face, his eyebrow does raise.]

Well, considering he and I are essentially the sole operators of a large portion of the magitechnological district... well, we tend to have quite a bit of work to do. Especially for large occasions like this.

I enjoy being able to spend time with him, though. [And the February shift had... well, it had exacerbated some of those things. So does the fact his canon self is subtly influencing his AU self...]

Always good to enjoy the company of the people you work with.

So you handle the magitech? Impressive. I never had much of a head for that stuff.

Yes... it is. [Robert looks down awkwardly. "Enjoying the company of", indeed...]

Ah. Well. Thank you. I'm certain most people could learn to, though. But... being around it for twenty years does tend to make it mostly rote...

[Another smile; he's not trying to make the young man uncomfortable, but it seems he is. Hmn.]

...I do better with mechanical stuff, really. Gears, wires, that sort of thing. But I'm glad there's people who know how to work the other things.

[Don't worry, Derek. AU or not, everybody makes Robert uncomfortable.]

Oh? Perhaps Donatello picked up some of his skills there from you, then. He's absolutely brilliant.

[Robert smiles. He loves his brother's dexterity and talent with physics and engineering, and often wishes he was quite so skilled. Though, to be fair, he's picked up a lot even just watching him at work.

Is it obvious just how much he adores him?]

[It's very obvious, and Derek is starting to have suspicions. Still.]

Good friends, you two?

I, er, try to be. [Robert can't stop himself from blushing at this. Just slightly, but enough to maybe make some things obvious.

He hates having to hide this. But he knows a lot of the village wouldn't see it as positively as Giles did.]

[And all those little hesitations are starting to add up. If there's anything that Derek is good at, it's reading people. He smiles again, looking pleased.]

That's good. I'm glad my son found such a good...friend.
