[This ninja scout is crouched down, studying a trail left by some Shift Hunters. He may not have noticed the large panther stalking him from behind.]

[It's amazing how quick she is to pick out a green turtle in a jungle. You'd think she was obsessed with revenge or something. Karai pauses on the branch she's on and gives Don a considering look from above.

...panther, huh. She owes him nothing. If he hasn't seen it, then he is a fool. This is what she tells herself, anyway, and Karai turns, intent on continuing on and leaving him to his own devices. If he fails to see it in time, then he dies. She won't mourn.

Nevertheless, Karai finds herself hesitating, reluctant to leave. She'll just...watch a little while longer.]

[The cat creeps closer, belly low to the ground. It goes undetected by the turtle until it gathers itself to pounce, at which moment Don pivots suddenly in his crouch, whipping out his bo. When he sees what his assailant is, though, he moves his weapon to a back position, only extending one upraised finger to the wild animal.]

[Is he out of his mind or what.]

[Oh, good. For a second there she thought she was going to have to lose respect for his figh--

...Donatello, what are you doing.]

[The cat growls but doesn't back off. Don, for his part, retreats a step, making a series of strange squeaking noises as he does so.]

[This can't possibly be effective.]

[Not in the slightest. But the cat hasn't attacked yet. Karai creeps slightly closer, hand going to the bow slung over one shoulder. She has an arrow nocked before she gives much thought to it-- but she aims at neither one just yet. Likely because both targets are incredibly tempting.]

[Don retreats another step, but the cat is having none of it. It takes a flying leap at him, forcing Don to fall back onto his shell and try to vault the heavy animal over him by jamming his bo and feet into its chest and stomach as it comes at him, claws outstretched. He manages to throw it, but not very far, and flips back to his feet to try to guard against the second strike that's sure to come.]

[She's already irritated-- this is the second time she's attacked one of the big cats to help someone, she realises, and she doubts Don is going to be any more grateful than the first victim. But she did say to Winry she wouldn't be contributing to friendly fire, after all. Standing back and watching him be mauled just isn't her style.

The arrow lets fly before the cat can swipe at Don again, driving into its shoulder and putting it off balance-- hopefully enough for Don to deal with it on his own. If not... well, maybe she'll take a closer hand in this. But she'd rather not.]

[The cat hisses, turning its head and biting at the arrow in its shoulder.]

[Don, for his part, completely loses focus, looking up into the trees to see where the arrow came from.]

[As Karai expected, it is not a grateful-sounding "hey".]

[He doesn't like that voice or that answer. Possibly-foolishly turning his back to it, Don moves forward to attempt to give the cat medical aid. The cat growls at first, but then seems to become more-or-less amiable to the idea.]

I don't think we're here to attack the wildlife, Karai.

We are not here to play with it, either. [She sounds disgusted. But Karai's eyes are moving elsewhere now. Movement nearby...?]

[Don doesn't notice. He's working the arrow out of the cat's shoulder, bandages at hand.]

I was tracking the Shift Hunters.

[Figures. She should've just left him to it.] I fail to see what squeaking at a cat has to do with Shift Hunters. [Her voice is more distant, now; preoccupied. She's nocking another arrow to her bow.]

[This does not at all make him tense up.] Who was squeaking?

[You were. But she's not replying now. Instead, Karai lets fly the arrow as a pack of four twisted dog-like creatures with needle sharp teeth burst from the undergrowth.

Her arrow thuds into the flank of one; it barely slows it down.
