These enemies are not difficult to defeat, but their sheer numbers drag the battle out. As soon as one falls, another appears to take its place. Like clockwork.
Even as focused on the fight at hand as he is, his enhanced angelic hearing picks up on the unfamiliar voice. Did someone just call out Kaori's name...? But there isn't time to wonder about that right now.]

Freyjadour?! [Her attention is divided between him and trying to avoid the attacks of the soldiers as they pressed in more close to her. She was at such a disadvantage in this environment it was amazing she had managed to go on this long. But the effects of wear show immediately in her shallower breathing.]

He makes the mistake of glancing over at them a moment too long; a soldier is lunging for him, spear ready. Quickly, he evades to the side and launches another potent photon of mana. At this close range it's enough to send the enemy sailing backwards, slamming against the broad trunk of a tree.
Back to the stranger for a quick second. Rather than distracting Kaori by asking her, she'll just ask him directly.]
Who are you? [Just listen to that hostile suspicion. Taking care of another enemy in the meantime, in much the same fashion as the first.]

So she allows herself to fall into the survival mindset she adopted on the streets, using sheer strength and her knives to knock out as many people as possible. There really was no distinguishing friend or foe right now.]

[Frey's going to try to stay out of Kaori's way, but he's going to keep on making sure no harm comes to Kaori from those soldiers she's fighting, attacking any that get near her. Whether that puts him in her line of attack is to be seen.]

The middle of a battle isn't really the place to let one's mind wander, but that statement is...strangely unsettling. A puzzle piece found after the puzzle has already been completed. He had assumed that Kaori was as alone as he was, but this person is claiming to be her friend. If that's true, is he...like them too? Is he just lying? Mithos has no idea what to think.
Or what to say in response. For now, he remains silent. Focus on the fight - that's far less complicated.]
