"Mistress Kay? You look positively ravishing this evening. Though I promise not to ravish you. Dance?"

Jack had Murphy standing by as wing man, just in case.

Why, Jack, how sweet of you to say--she might just take you up on that offer. Kay raises an eyebrow, glancing down at the shaggy little pony for a moment before looking back up. "I don't know if anyone's told you this, but it looks like you've got a tag-along there."

"Murphy's just here to make sure there's no trouble, eh? He's a good man...erm....pony....in a tight spot."

Gallantly, Jack extends a hand toward Kay. This is not Jack's kind of music. This is PROBABLY not Kay's kind of music, either. But it could be danceable.

"Suppose he would be--he's small enough." To get out of a tight spot, that is. Kay's fighting a bit of tipsiness at the moment, and so her way with words is diminishing just a little.

She smiles wryly when he offers her his hand. What's an evening without some dancing, after all? "All right, all right--let me finish this." Once she's drained the last of her cocktail and set it on a free bit of counterspace, Kay takes his hand. Jack better have some idea how you dance to music like this, because she sure doesn't.

For Jack, everything too fast and dramatic to be a waltz will end up as either a reel or a hornpipe or a tango. And this is no place for a hornpipe. Or a reel.

And Kay is so tangoable tonight. With a dramatic turn, the pirate sends his cowboy hat sailing onto the bar as he pulls the woman close against him.

"Now, Mistress Kay----now we dance as they do in España. Like we are to DIE from it. Olé!"

When faced with uptempo music, Kay generally turns to the foxtrot or the jitterbug, but if there's no room for a hornpipe, there's certainly not enough room for jitterbugging, either.

Tango, she can't promise much for, but at the moment, it seems like it's worth trying. It's been months since she's gone out dancing at all, and the familiarity of it--even with the promise of foreign steps--is enough that she'd likely still be in a good mood if Jack tried to dip her and dropped her by accident.

"All right," Kay tells him merrily, setting her free hand on his upper arm, "but if I step on your feet--no responsibility. I usually dance like they do in America."

"If you step on them, it's likely because I deserve it for not leading you well enough," he countered, taking her across the floor of Good Spirits with very smooth steps indeed. Once at the end of the room, he spins her about and takes a new direction: toward the bar.

"Tell me, darling: what is your most favoritest way to dance?"

Kay's delighted to find that he's got reason to back up his swagger when it comes to dance. While she's green to tangoing, she prides herself at being fairly good on the floor in general, and with someone who does lead quite well, it's not too difficult to pick up. And it's fun, undeniably so.

"'Most favoritest'?" Colourful grammar aside, she knows the answer immediately, and knows she's going to say something else. After a moment's thought, she answers, "Foxtrot, maybe. What about you?"

"It's not the dance, sweetness; it's the woman." Ah----once close enough to the bar, he twirls about and dips Kay, simultaneously reaching for a bottle of rum and drinking it. He sets it back down before pulling her up again into a tight embrace.

"A beautiful woman can make any dance enjoyable."

She makes a mental note to see whether dancing with Jack can be orchestrated again in the future, something she hadn't expected to feel any need to do when he offered a hand her way. It's the flair with which he moves, each step an entirely confident one and yet feeling nearly as though he's making things up as he goes; it's not what she might have guessed of him, nor is it quite like any time she's danced before.

The swooping sensation of falling back a moment, her fingertips just brushing the floor, before finding herself face to face with him once more, leaves her just a touch breathless. This is swiftly turning into the only dance she'll be up to for the evening; good thing it's proving to be memorable. "Flatterer." She's smiling, though. "But you're right--good company makes it."

"Flatteree," he returned in a roguish whisper. Dancing with Kay was turning into quite the lark. And the cocktail dress? Well. He settled his palm more firmly against her back and led them off again on another round of the room.

"Would you like a cupcake, sweetness?"

She rolls her eyes; that sort of answer belongs in a picture, and probably in Tyrone Power's mouth, Jack. But she's perfectly happy to take another turn around the place.

"A cupcake? I don't know...maybe?" Let's be honest, she sort of does, for all she's playing coy about it. Even if they seem a bit childish for a party without five-year-olds running around.

"Then we shall tango our way over to the cupcakes and we shall PILLAGE one, darling!" Cupcakes are ALL THE RAGE in the future, Kay. Jack simply enjoys lovely sweet confectionary-type desserty things, and never passes one up if he can help it. Resolutely he points their joined hands toward that tower of pink frosting.

"All right, sure," she laughs, and follows his lead. The idea that cupcakes will someday take over her city is one that she'd have a hard time picturing, though if they're all this carefully frosted, perhaps there's a good reason for it.

And so the couple struts across the floor to the dessert table, where hopefully the pony hasn't eaten everything yet. "We must do it with flair, darling." Of course---they couldn't just TAKE cupcakes. They had to dance them away.

Oh, heavens, imagine simply standing there and eating them like civilized adults. The ignominy. Once over there, she lets go of his hand to pick a cupcake up gingerly; pretty though it might be, the possibility of having to clean frosting stains out of silk isn't a possibility she's looking forward to. It hasn't been defiled by man nor beast, though, so there's that, at least.

For a moment, Kay frowns at it like she's never seen one before. "This seems like enough frosting for two or three cupcakes."
