[Wrong way. This branch of the tunnel system won't lead you to daylight, but it does bring you to a couple of what would appear to be jail cells. Lurking in one of them is a familiar someone...

He really isn't pleased to see Yuan at all. Being down here sucks enough; the two months reprieve from the other half-elf's company was one of the few good things going for him. And Yuan doesn't even appear to be bringing him anything, so what's his motive? There's something a little...off about him.]

I don't know why you're bothering to come down here.

[The jailcells aren't exactly lifting Yuan's mood either. Instead of finding a way out, he's just gotten himself into an even more dubious surrounding. His eyes automatically move away from the cells, watching the ground firmly. That's why Mithos's voice catches him completely off-guard. He gives a light start before his gaze whips up to meet the other half-elf's. He hadn't expected anyone to actually be down here.

This person... Does he know him? He looks so familiar, but not exactly in a good way. Something about this boy is so... intimidating. It might just be the bitter tone in his voice, but Yuan has the distinct feeling this kid isn't all he seems. If only he could remember his name. That would surely get his memory going again.

Then Yuan snaps out of his musings to realize he's stopped walking and has been fixing the boy with a confused stare.]

... I'm sorry. Do I... know you?

[His eyebrows furrow in a very perplexed look as he tries to figure out what to make of that. Yes, something is definitely off here; Yuan himself doesn't seem to know why he's down here, or who Mithos is. Then...what else does he not remember...? He's tempted to bite back with an insult, but he chooses a more neutral answer:]

...Yes. [unfortunately] We've known each other for a long time.

["A long time"... Yes. Yes, that sounds about right. Didn't they travel together at some point? With others? There was definitely some sort of objective they were trying to reach together and it took them a very long time. In fact, something tells Yuan he's known this boy nearly his entire life. But that can't be right- he's much younger than Yuan. There's a perfectly valid explanation for this, surely, but thinking about it is causing him a massive headache.]

We have, haven't we? Yes... [But what the hell is this kid's name? It's on the tip of his tongue.]

[He can see Yuan slowly putting pieces together in his mind, and debates his next move. He's beginning to wonder if he can use this to his advantage... It depends on what exactly Yuan can remember. A careful pokerface.]

...You know my sister too. [and betrayed her like a disgusting piece of trash]

[His sister... That's right, this boy has a sister. An... older one. And that sister is very dear to him. That sister is the most important thing in the world to this boy. She was there as well, on that journey. Yuan must've known her for quite some time too. He's having the hardest time picturing a face to go with it, though. All he really remembers is that she had something to do with a church and she was very kind. ... She must be a priestess- Yes, that's it. She's a member of that church. Now he's getting somewhere. So were they on a pilgrimage together?]

I... Yes, I do. [He raises a hand to the back of his head, running his fingers through his hair absentmindedly.] I just wish... Hm...

[Oh, to hell with it all, he'll just ask.] What was your name again?

Mithos.

[he'll wait for any reaction to that before saying anything else. Yuan's obvious state of confusion is becoming a point of greater and greater interest.]

[Mithos! Yes, that definitely sounds familiar. Mithos...]

... Mithos the Hero. [He voiced it out loud and he's sure that's what this boy is called. But why a hero? He must've done something great.

Let's see, Mithos the Hero... It has something to do with a Goddess, that's for certain. A slumbering Goddess who would seal away something terrible. Mithos must've awakened the Goddess. Yes, now that he thinks about it, that makes perfect sense. It explains everything, including that foreboding feeling he had before. Mithos must be very powerful to have accomplished such a great deed.]

Why are you in there?

[He has to resist curling his lips in a smirk. Yes, this is very interesting.] That's right, the hero who ended the war.

[now, how to tread about that question...] I was captured and imprisoned by enemies.

[The war... He did end it. There was an ancient war and Mithos the Hero was responsible for finally seeing it to a close. He must've used the power of the Goddess to seal away malignant forces and subdue the two countries so that they could make peace. How impressive. And Yuan traveled with him for a while.

Of course, having such great power means there are people who would try to take it for their own. ... Yes, that's right. Mithos the Hero was betrayed, wasn't he? By humans who wanted to take something from him. And now he's trapped in here. Is that connected to Yuan's kidnapping, perhaps? Well, no time to ponder that now. If they managed to lock away a great hero like Mithos, who knows what else they could've done?]

They wanted to take your might for themselves, didn't they? Your strong connection to the Goddess... Did they succeed?

[...what. Allow a short moment to process. But he's quick on his feet, and right now it looks like the best course of action is to let Yuan believe what he wants to believe. A path is forming in his mind, and as it comes into sharper focus he can begin to see where it leads...]

Yes, and they didn't want me to interfere with their own plans. [he shakes his head] They haven't yet, but if I remain here much longer... [fill in the blanks, loser]

[Yuan's face contorts for a moment, but then he quickly shakes his head and a look of determination washes over him. What sort of companion would he be if he just left Mithos here? No, what sort of person would he be if he left the great hero trapped while traitors would abuse the power of the Goddess for their own ends?]

I'll get you out. [... Somehow.] Just wait here.

[He turns and starts pacing the hallway. There must be something here he can use to open the door.]

[As soon as Yuan turns around, THE BIGGEST SMIRK because this is delicious. Just for a fraction of a moment, then back to innocent neutrality.]

...There are traps. You should look out for them. [Oh, it pains him to send out that warning. But as much as he would enjoy seeing Yuan ensnared in a painful trap, it's far more important that he gets out of here.]

[He was just about to take another step, but Mithos's words cause him to freeze, his gaze instantly snapping down to the path before him. Figures they wouldn't make things easy. Slowly, he crouches down and starts feeling the ground, keeping a close eye out for any triggers that might be near invisible to the naked eye. It's a good thing he was warned, too, because a few feet along the way he spots a length of thin wire running along the hallway. If it's severed, it's bound to unleash something nasty ( ... )

welp let's try this again (nobody saw anything) imatreenow August 9 2011, 19:51:19 UTC
[He watches as Yuan picks the lock, almost not believing his excellent fortune with this turn of events. It's only just, though, that it should unfold this way...

The cell door swings open with a creak, and Mithos steps forward. He's out. ...No, he isn't going to thank Yuan for helping him. There's the temptation to take advantage of the element of surprise and strike him, while the field is leveled by a lack of power and weapons and there's nobody to interfere... But there are still the traps in the hallway to consider. He needs to be able to get through those safely, and Yuan is the key.]

[Raine had been on her way down to check up on Mithos once more, since probably aside from his sister she was the only one to make sure that he was kept in reasonable condition.

As she continues down the path, closer to where the cells are kept, she can pick up on the sound of voices. Was that... Yuan talking? That couldn't be right; the man was kidnapped.

Even so, she quietly picks up her pace.]
