[The mood in the village has gotten more tense, hasn't it? Unlike most of the draftees dutifully sharpening their skills, there isn't much Loki can do to prepare. If anything, this draft business only reminds him of his limitations. Ah, well. There's no use wishing for powers he doesn't have.

First, he goes to the smithy to see if there are any weapons he could possibly use. There is much picking up of blades, only for him to immediately put them back down. Were swords always that heavy?

Next, he goes to the item store for some miscellaneous supplies. Most notably, he leaves with a child-sized life jacket.

Lastly, he goes home with a book on naval warfare. It could make some good bedtime reading.]

(( OOC: Largely a placeholder until I've made a trip for some good old-fashioned apartment-scrubbing. ))

[He deposits the life jacket in his room before heading toward the living room for a round with his book. But before he makes it there, he spies the snacks in the kitchen and decides to make a quick detour. It would be rude to ignore someone's hard work, right?]

[He puts his book on the table before shimmying up onto the chair.]

Minato-nii. Did you make these? [You know. Just so he can brace himself in case a certain someone else made them.]

[Are you insinuating that he's insinuating something about that person's cooking...]

Well, if you're offering. [He goes and takes one, assured of its quality.]

[Minato was right; to say Minako was concerned would be an understatement. It was hard to find the right timing to talk to him, but she figured... The sooner, the better. That was how it went. But why was he drafted, and not her? She couldn't wrap her mind around it; and it was her first time experiencing someone so close to her being sent off.]

[Admittedly, though she did not know much about him, he was an important person to her. On par with her brother, on par with any of her friends back at home.]

[So doing her best to appear as calm as possible, she breathes in and out deeply before approaching. That would be the correct thing to do, wouldn't it?] [...]

Hey, there. Studying?

[While he's reading up, she'll come from behind with a hand on his shoulder. There's even a smile; though somewhat forced.]

[He looks up at her and returns her smile with one of his own, albeit with less difficulty. He wasn't delighted about being drafted, but he knew he could take care of himself. But convincing Minako of that probably wouldn't be so easy.]

Uh-huh. [He shows her the cover of the book, titled A Guide to Naval Strategy.] This is one thing I haven't read much on.

[She's all too familiar with the situation, so despite her being vehemently against it, there just wasn't much she could do. Loki was mature, just like Ken back at home. He hated when people looked down on him because of his age, and over the course of knowing Loki, he was just the same, wasn't he? ... She wanted to see him off without any complications and to at least save him from a headache. It was the least she could do in her situation.]

You're a smart person, I'm sure you'll do just fine out there. You're giving it all you've got, huh?

[The vikings are masters of ocean travel, but the real action happens on land, not ocean. His natural aversion to water on top of that means he isn't exactly a naval expert, but now is as good a time as any to learn.

[In any case, he gets the feeling that saying "I'll come back to life even if I die" won't make her feel any better, so he keeps that reasoning to himself.]

I doubt it'll make a difference in the end, but it's interesting reading. In the end, I probably won't do much more than stay below deck.

[Don't forget about the death penalty part.]

It might not now, but it will in the long run. [It was relieving to see that he was taking it seriously.]

... Let me know how it goes? I hear there are a couple down times here and there. [...]

[She's holding back on saying so many things, and it shows.]

[... There are worse penalties he's had to face.]

I'll keep in touch.

[He catches the uncertainty in her voice and puts his book aside. He's always been good at keeping secrets, but there are times when he wishes he had none.]

You don't have to worry. I'll be back in a few days, and then we can pick the fanciest cake in the bakery and eat it together. Okay?

[She didn't like keeping secrets from him either. If she was withholding her own, then it was only natural Loki would be doing so as well.]

... Yeah. Five days. Mm... How about we change it up a little? Let's bake a cake together instead.

[Hrk.] That could be interesting. I don't know much about baking cakes, though.

[If they screw something up, it won't be just her fault, hoho.]

Following a recipe is easy enough. Come on, it'll be fun!
