But where are those good old fashioned values?

So, everyone have fun with the last event? Of course you did. No, put your hand back down.

Anyway, the next event is still a few weeks off, but here's some more details for planning. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a reminder from the last post. The last planning post can be found here.

Five hundred years ago, the ancestors of the current Lucetians settled into the Luceti Valley. These days it's not really known where they came from, only that it was from some disaster and it was only with the help of a strange folk known as the 'Malnosso' that they avoided being wiped out. Most of the Lucetians are descended from this group, which started as a force of one hundred strong settlers. What started out as a forested village has over time been modernized. Through water wheels and magitechnology, electricity was created and distributed throughout the village, as well as a water system under the village for plumbing. (Unlike in the current village, these systems will exist and be observable and not the result of Shifts. Jobs related to maintaining these services will also exist).

The Malnosso play an important part of the Lucetian culture and it's through them they trade for many of the luxuries they enjoy (such as televisions, microwaves, and so on). From the mountains the Lucetians mine iron and coal, they cut timber from the woods, grow food in the summers, and catch fish in the ocean. The shops in town are still maintained by the same people (unless the players choose otherwise), but it's done as a means of survival than mere hobby. A small town council sometimes convenes to discuss important town affairs, but the meetings are infrequent and is only composed of people interested in that sort of thing.

Thanks to the Malnosso, a barrier surround the Lucetians and keeps them safe from monsters that prowl outside. The forest itself is little different than it is in current Luceti. At times it is known to have monsters breach the barrier and appear in the woods, at which time the Lucetians will be forced to deal with them. However in the last twenty years, an external force have waged war with them. This 'third party' has continued to try to breach the barrier, forcing the people of Luceti to fight them. The battles have been hard and as a result many lives have been lost. Mothers and fathers, lovers and children, and many more have been lost. (For family trees where characters are missing parents or other such, this may be what happened to them.) Just as alarming is that many people who once lived in Luceti will simply vanish in the woods and never return. (Such people are past residents of Luceti, which can either be ignored or incorporated into AUs.) Others sometimes do return, but with gaps in their memories and unusual side effects of an unknown cause. (These are your mallynappings.)

To the Lucetians, the Malnosso are benefactors, but ones that are not entirely seen as trustworthy. Most famous among them is Sir Catherine, a jovial fellow who is well-liked by many, though many see him as a fool or troublemaker and at worse someone to be avoided. (More on him later).

There is no explanation for why some people have special powers, though many believe they are just specially attuned to the Filial Spirits at birth. These powers can greatly vary and don't appear to be genetic. (In other words, in most cases, people will keep their unusual powers.) There are some Lucetians who are long lived or immortal, but none of them are old enough to be counted amongst the original settlers. Some of the current villagers might come from similar settlements to Luceti. These places are in much the same plight and are probably long destroyed, leaving them as the only survivor of the war with the Third Party. Finding Luceti was likely done via help from the Malnosso.

Much like the rest of the world, sometimes Luceti falls victim to strange circumstances. People falling in love, changing into various shapes, or the other things that happen in experiments. Fortunately these are temporary and the Malnosso, clever creatures they are, always manage to reverse the effects within a matter of a week. Given Lucetians have grown up experiencing these sorts of things all of their life, it is considered something of a nuisance and bother but just a part of life.

Now then, some basic question and answers.

Q: Will my character have a different personality due to a different history?

A: There might be some differences, but the point is to give them new histories, not turn them into original characters. Their alternate history should be tailored to give them a similar personality and attitude.

Q: My character has X special item they got in canon, how did they get it in the AU?

A: Feel free to come up with something. Perhaps it was brought to Luceti by an ancestor, it belonged to a Third Party soldier and was claimed as spoils of war, or if possible, even made in Luceti.

Q: What if my character had a death penalty?

A: Deaths are permanent in this version of Luceti and irreversible. They will however still keep their death penalties for the event, so feel free to find alternate explanations for them (such as being born that way). If your character dies during the event, they will be thought of as permanently dead... until they come back to life after the AU is over, anyway.

Q: Do mallynappings still happen?

A: As noted before, they do. However their cause and why they happen is unknown.

Q: Experiments?

A: Natural phenomena of the world. The Malnosso are responsible for -stopping them-.

Q: What about special powers?

A: They still have them, still at half power (though this would seem to be the natural level for them). People are just born with these abilities for unknown reasons. Immortals, however, can not be old enough to be among the original settlers. However, you also have the option to make your character mortal for the event.

Q: Can my character have a history/relationship with the Malnosso?

A: No. Bil/Catherine is the only one to actually speak and trade with the villagers.

Q: What sort of jobs do my characters do? How much do they earn?

A: Any sort you can think of that makes sense. Fishermen, hunters, farmers, tailors, merchants, and so on. How wealthy they are in their profession is up to you. Money exists, but for the purpose of the AU there's a fair distribution of wealth. However if you want to play with a rich family or the poor, you can do so.

Q: My character's AU father is a turtle! Help!

A: For the purposes of the AU, the fact people look different and should be biologically incompatible is something character do not notice. Ciel does not find it odd at all his parents are a Koopa and a perfectly normal woman. It simply doesn't occur to him that this is unusual.

Q: Do I have to AU my character?

A: No, we won't force you to participate. It's more fun if you do, but if you absolutely do not want to participate, your character can remain unaffected. Be warned, though! To the rest of Luceti, your unaffected character will no doubt appear crazy and utterly insane. They may as well be wearing a paper sack on their head.

Also, feel free to use this as a planning post. Because of how busy this will get, the first thread will be for questions to the mods. We won't be looking for questions in all the other threads, so if you want answers, then please use this thread!
