The Transcribing of the Traumatic Adventures of Dr. John, Doorkicker, Smiley, and The Redshirt.

As you may or may not know, I'm kind of obsessive about backstory. And, as you may also know, all we really learn about John's military service is given to us in a grand total of twenty seconds of montage. Well, that and him getting shot and stuff. So, I did the same thing that I did when I was trying to figure out how much it hurts when Azkadellia ( Read more... )

DEAR GOD, YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH TIME THIS TOOK ME. Or how much I STILL know about dinosaurs that I will NEVER need. My brain, it is full of trivial things. D:

When I started this, I genuinely just expected stock footage of people shooting things, not single-second characterization. Now I really want someone (who is not me) to write The Badassification of John Watson and backstory for the gang, particularly poor Smiley. Also, I now ship Smiley/Doorkicker, with some Redshirt->Doorkicker UST.

Ok, I need bed before I turn twenty seconds of footage into a soap opera. Enjoy your wacky eastern hemisphere day! ♥

Well, wow. I sure wasn't expecting that either...these writers are as obsessed as we are, I suppose. And it shows from their commentaries, btw. Kindred spirits, I like! :D

I was actually thinking that the one that gets shot was John, and in fact I couldn't explain to myself why the camera pov changed. Thanks for sorting that out for me. :P

Well, so. Now I guess the next step is to write fic, isn't it? *chin on hands*

You are very welcome! I'm here to help! I adore the fact that the makers/writers/SHOWTYPES are just as big of fans as we are. ♥

And re: writing, I am currently writing a Big Thing which is Big and time-consuming, so I leave it to someone who is not me (and hopefully could write British-type soldiers; I'd turn them into US military culture in a heartbeat and that's just not ok with me).

Fascinating. It amazes me that you managed to get so much out of those few clips. I must go back and rewatch. What a hardship... not!

Oh, the unbearable pain of rewatching! And I have to say, I'm amazed they even put that much in!
