And the ACT told me I was smart...

I study and study and study...read and read and read...but I can't seem to remember anything I have just read. My Communications book seems foreign and alien to me and I've read the chapters 3 times. I've highlighted and memorized and 10 minutes later, it's all gone.

This just further proves my theory...I'm not smart. I may be street smart or say ( Read more... )

Hey Krista, I know what you are saying. Believe me, when I first started tech school for the air force, I was taking a class every day for 9 hrs a day, and it seemed everything I learned in that 9 hrs just seemed to vanish from my memory. No matter how hard I tried, it just did not seem to work. You said "So, where's the motivation in trying when I know I won't succeed?" The motivation comes when you know you are trying. When you try, is when you succeed, no matter how hard it is, or where it seems to be taking you. It sucks now, but when its all done, you will know that you tried and succeeded in what probably was the hardest thing you've done so far in life...and thats knowing you did your best and you accomplished it...like with my classes, I had classes for those 9 hrs for almost 6 months, but now I know that in 6 months I am 2 credits shy of my associates, I am overwhelmed with how well I tried, and how far I've came. And I'm still going. And thats how YOU should be too. You just need to know that when you "try" you will succeed ( ... )

Thanks Bradford! I really appreciate that so much. Sometimes I just need to hear a little encouragement I guess. Matt's really trying to help me with studying and reading different ways so I hope that will make me feel better about all this. I know I can accomplish things, it's just hard when I don't understand and get very discouraged, but I know you know how that is. Anyways, tell BillyIggyMetacarpalsPhalangesClavicle Rex that I say hello and that I hope his iguana ass is doing well. :) Thanks again.

Its only a waste if you think it is. Get what you want out of college and if you feel like there is nothing left then maybe there really isn't. People are destined for different things, don't let your parents design your future for you... take responsiblity and do it for yourself. Hope you have had a good few weeeks, i have been without net for awhile.

My past few weeks have been...difficult, but I'm managing. My boyfriend always says..

"Don't let your parents design your future for you... take responsiblity and do it for yourself."

I know you are both right, it's admitting that to myself that's the hard part and living through their "well...that's alright..." comments. I've just always felt like I'm not good enough...for anything, or anyone. I am hoping that will change very soon. Your comment helped me on the way...

I know how you feel about college being frustrating. it sucks...and i already feel behind too. i know you can do this...you're smart enough. just do what you feel in your gut. that's what is going to get you through.
know that i'm here for you too.

I think the best idea would be for you to talk to someone b4 class or in btwn classes about the readings. Lord knows boring books dont make for good memories. But liek mr page says, if you talk about ti youll remember it. caus eit ownt be somthign you read nemore itll be somthing you discussed. I tend to read alowed or just make a point to say somthign that will make a fellow classmate inforce the points of the reading. thats why facts suck and discussions are the shizzle dizzle ;)

I do love discussions but that's why it sucks that most of my classes are lecture. I just sit there and take notes and wonder why the hell I'm even bothering. I definitely agree with you though, talking about it does do wonders. :)
