The final portfolio was mailed.
YAY!
School is officially over for the girl.
She completed 100% of the curriculum.  (I don't ever remember completing the whole book for any subject when I was in school.)
She has a 95% overall average, which could go up or down depending on the grades she receives for the portfolio items.
I am not sweating anything ( Read more... )

having never lived through home schooling I am curious. I understand the socialization part of regular school but...I thought home schooling offered a better education with a safer enviroment. I guess its pretty hard to deal with though also. Pros and cons you would care to share? Since I'm married to a teacher I'm curious....

The better education thing depends on the parents. And I think that is a huge part of public schools as well. I am sure there are some kids who are being schooled at home who will not be prepared academically ( ... )

Happy to talk or listen anytime! I have to say-I think the amount of work is daunting for me but after hearing the horrors of some of todays schools-I would hesitate with a public school if we had a kid for a few reasons. I can't afford to live in the "good" districts and having two mom's good well be a source of major ridicule and issues. On the other hand, I don't see how we could afford for me to stay home and home school and Sue is the bigger of the two paychecks. Sigh, good thing I don't have a kid at this point!

I think catholic school might be good for the girl. A change of pace, a new authority figure, and a break for you. The catholic schools in the delaware county area provide a pretty good education, and if it is not challenging enough, they will probably work with you to suppplement it. good luck

A break for me is what I want!
heh.
The school I picked has about 300 students and they have an advanced math course.
We are still deciding and it is a hard choice. We will have to do the math and see if we can swing the money.

Congratulations to the girl. And to you of course. I'm sure that you are both relieved.

Yay, schools out! Now you and the girl can enjoy the summer.

Good luck on the decision to homeschool or put her in Catholic school. I don't really have anything to add there.

Isn't there also a Quaker school in your area? If you and Patrick are concerned about the Catholic thing, maybe a Quaker school would be better?
