Int. Tube Station - In The Evening

Marouane stands on the platform waiting, he is looking down at his smartphone, clearly exhausted from a long day of work.

He glances up at the marquee where the train arrivals are shown for only a second before he looks down at the phone again, typing some numbers in before he lets the phone disappear in the pockets of his jacket.

He looks back at the ground again for some moments, suddenly glances at his watch before he returns to looking down at the ground.

Sounds of the tube are getting louder, RATTLING of rails, HISSING of the wind, RUSTLING papers down above the rails, the SCREECHING of brakes, flickers of lights are painted on the walls but the train does not enter the station yet.

Marouane looks up, puzzledly searches the other platform with his eyes. His eyes come to a halt when he sees YOANN standing on the opposite platform, looking back at him, hands shoved deep into the pockets of his skinny jeans, hair tousled, looking a little tired and excited at the same time. Marouane freezes, but looks at Yoann all the time until the incoming train separates their gazes from each other.

The train comes to a halt and when it opens its doors, people start pushing their way out of the train and into the opposite direction. Marouane stands in the middle of them, gets pushed around by other passengers but remains standing there seemingly untouched, visibly paralyzed from what he's just seen.

After all passengers have left or entered the train, its doors close again and Marouane startles a little only when the train sets into motion, rails RATTLING and papers RUSTLING again as it sets off to leave the station.

Marouane looks back up, searching the other platform with his eyes again, but finds that YOANN has disappeared. He keeps staring at the spot only a while longer before his gaze drops again, a visible slump in his shoulders. He looks down at the ground for some more long moments.

After a while, he reaches into the pockets of his jacket, but before he can get his cellphone back out, YOANN is suddenly in front of him, grabbing his Marouane's wrist and holding it tightly with his small fingers.

YOANN
(softly and slowly)
Leave it. I can take you home, if you allow me to.

Marouane sighs and takes a moment before he looks up to meetYOANN'S eyes.

YOANN (CONT'D)
Could you tell that I've been waiting for you to look up since a couple of weeks now? I'd be here every day, just standing over there to watch you catch the 7:30 pm train and you would never look up to see me, not once. I'm glad you finally did, today. I was starting to lose hope in you still being a human being beside your job, to be honest.

All the time, Marouane keeps looking back at him. One can see regret and pain and relief flickering across his features, but he doesn't say anything to interrupt YOANN. When he opens his mouth to say something, the SOUNDS of another incoming train cut him off. YOANN just tugs at his wrist and pulls him into the exit's direction.

not-published yet, yoann, marouane, script
