Dear Yuletide writer,
We matched on a fandom! Yay! Pretty much anything in any of these fandoms is going to make me happy. :)
Please feel free to have a rummage around my LJ or DW or to check out my own fic (also at AO3) if you want to get a feel for what I like.
First, general fic likes and dislikes.
I’m a huge, huge fan of banter. I also like happy endings, dancing, schmoop, bittersweet fics, competent people fic, first times (not just sexual, could be first kiss, first time sleeping together, first time living together, first time on holiday together, first time working together etc) and slightly angsty fics (though I usually prefer them to have a happy ending). I’m perfectly fine with any rating, shippy or gen fic, somthing with no plot or plotty, crimefighting fics (and anything in between really) and am pretty kink friendly though for Yuletide I would appreciate no dub/non-con or d/s.
I'm not a fan of incest, mpreg, scat, gore, too much angst, character bashing, character death or people (especially my nominated characters) being stupid or unobservant.
Tales of Einarinn - Juliet E McKenna
The Tales of Einarinn are a five book series of high fantasy novels. There's politics, at least two magic systems, plenty of magical discovery, world in peril and a huge variety of characters and beliefs.
What I said: I absolutely love them both together so anything with the pair of them. Could be set in the days of them being friends, as the truth slowly dawns on either one of them, during the final book or after their wedding.
Additional stuff: I think my favourite books are Warrior's Bond and Assassin's Edge because of these two. I love the way their relationship evolves through out them, and seeing their thoughts during any of these points would be great. There's plenty of scope after the books as well - the other Seiurs won't react brilliantly, plus they'll have the challenges of getting the settlements up and running properly. I can just imagine all the interrupted moments or knowing looks they get from the other settlers. I adore how everyone accepts and gets a little protective over Allin, and how she has to help with anything in anyway she can.
Or there is a moment in one of the later trilogies where Allin appears at the end to help defend the wizard's isle. I think that's ripe with potential, either of their thoughts as she heads to the isle, or during it, especially Temar as he waits to see if she comes back, or later when they are reunited.
Jesse Stone (Movies)
The Jesse Stone series of tv films is based around the Police Chief of a small town called Paradise and it's rather high crime rate. There are 8 films to date, but one of my characters, Rose Gammon appears in only the last 4.
What I said: Rose and Jesse's friendship is my favourite aspect and I'd love a fic that dealt with that somehow. Whether it's their friendship first starting after Jesse moves to Paradise, or when Rose first starts working in the department, to any sort of moment between then during the series. Could be dealing with her divorce, his drinking, the general town council shenanigans, or even just on the shooting range together or sitting eating donuts. Or something set after Benefit of the Doubt - how does their friendship recover properly, how long does it take for them to properly forgive each other and get back in the swing of their friendship. Has anything changed after that?
Feel free to include Suitcase if you want, and I do quietly ship them so if you want throw hints or a bit of that in, that's more than fine.
Additional stuff: I like how understated the films are, and I'll admit that Rose is my favourite by a smidgen, though as I've said Rose and Jesse's friendship is my favourite aspect. I adore how Jesse mentors Rose at work and encourages her to think her way through the cases as well as the way she can gently chide him or turn up when she needs a friend and fall asleep in one of his chairs.
DCI Banks (tv)
DCI Banks is a British crime series following the fictional Yorkshire Major Crimes Unit. DCI Alan Banks is in charge with Annie Cabbot initially starting off in Complaints but transferring to work under him.
What I said: I love the relationship between these two, regardless of the form it's in. Could be anything set back in the early days of working together when Annie was in Complaints, during the process of them becoming friends and Annie finding him a mentor, when he finds out she's pregnant, when they start a relationship and all the hiccups involved in that.
Additional stuff: I'll admit that Annie is my favourite by a smidge if you wanted to go for a particular POV, but anything that deals with the pair of them and their complicated relationship would be brilliant. Fic dealing with their relationship (not just the romantic one either - they are friends and colleagues first) at any point would be great. We never get to see how Alan reacts to news of her pregnancy, or how she tells him, and I find all the ideas that could generate just delicious, especially when people assume the kid is his. Pre-ship, when they first start working together after she transfers would also be great, especially as it's stated she hero-worships him, and there is also the point where she has to investigate him. Or after series when they are trying to make a proper go of a relationship around their respective families and issues and working together.
It doesn't have to be all serious, thinky fic either, snippets of them having happy moments (Alan is downright adorable holding Isla), or working together (I do love a bit of casefic, but I know how hard that can be to write), or just slice of life would be great.
I'm usually around at some point on the 25th and I'll typically leave a kudos or a brief comment first to let you know I've read it, but I don't really have a chance to properly comment until the 26th.
