7th Heaven:
“There are some mornings, where indeed the sky looks like a road”
April 8, 2014.
One the road once again ...
There he was again.
A mere hour away from confidently taking the next step forward into the path of the new life he had so adamantly worked on in the past ten years. Brick after brick, sweat after drop of sweat, and all on his own, one could say, completely form scratch, only relying on his sheer will to survive, and to live for what he believed. However, even though he knew very well that there wasn't a single person, whom had been part of this new life of his that could deny his deeds, as he sat unmoving in front of the mirror in his changing room, and absently stared at his reflection, Takanori couldn't help but find it extremely hard to give himself credit for anything at all.
Such thought wasn't because of what Shinya had done for him, given him a proper second chance in life, which he knew he would be eternally grateful, or because of Yutaka, whose ever-reliable friendship turned him into the sociable person he was, and it wasn't even because of Kouyou, his soon to be husband, the man with whom he formed the most amazing bond, and with whom he was ready to happily spend the rest of his life. Those, were all indeed source of undeniable help, but if he hadn't met her, that random day, if she hadn't been there of him, not as it ought to have been; but because she had wanted, then maybe ...
-Hey ...- kindly called Yutaka, gently shaking his shoulders just a little - … everything okay? ...- he inquired, staring at Takanori's absent expression through the mirror -Don't tell me you … don't tell me you have cold feet right ?!- quickly exclaimed the standing brunette, his quizzically nervous expression now reflecting in the same mirror, as Takanori's, who quickly tsked, while rolling his eyes, and proceeding to continue his make-up process, applying some foundation
-Like I could ever, please ...- Takanori replied a few second later, his tone completely brushing off even the mere concept of such a preposterous thought. However, as he kept staring at his reflection, each second that passed, took away bit and bit of his confidence, for he simply still couldn't settle down with having to give this face of his, all the merit for all he had. This face, which to begin with, he hadn't given himself, had he?
You good for nothing ... thing! I never ever ever want to see your face in front of me, ever again! You heard me?!
Good for nothing “thing”, yeah, that was exactly how his father had called him the instant before Takanori took up his things, slammed the door behind himself, and never turned back. All because he wouldn't keep his mouth shot, all because he couldn't “just play” by those, his fathers, rules, even if for just a little more longer, like his elder brother Kazuo used to tell him, time and time again
You don't have to be what you are not, just … play by the rules, for a little, and then once you are out, do whatever you want Takanori … it is best that way; that was how I did it as well.
But Takanori was different. He had always been, he had known, his brother knew, they all knew. There was absolutely no way he would have simply stayed and do what he didn't feel like it should have been in his nature to have done, though, if it had, Kazuo had been right about that, it would have indeed speared him some unnecessary shit he'd had to go through; things he'd never thought he'd have to even consider.
I just don't understand … where … where did I go wrong … don't you feel sorry for yourself?
And that sentence, the sentece that will alwys stay burned in his mind, not because of its menaing, it had nothing to do with anything, but just its voice, it loving and caring tone, that had been spared for him from her; his mother, on a random day, in his random solitary life, in which as he was getting ready to take his routine walk, in his side of street in order to beg for some money, his mother just so happened to have driven by the same road, and almost caused an accident because of the way she had stopped so quickly and harshly. They stopped and talk for a while, it had been quite awkward, but she didn't lack her motherly touch, and Takanori had appreciated that. She gave him all the money she had, after having begged him, over and over again, to come back home, and once again; play by the rules with his father. Because, as she had said, if it were up to her she didn't care, she really didn't, as long as her beloved son would have been alive where she could see, rather than her keep having nightmares of him, dead somewhere where she couldn't even fathom or could know.
Obviously, Takanori had refused, and even though he had to admit to himself that his mother's tears had touched him in almost every single way possible, as well as every single cell of his being, he had already decided that there would have been no turning back. He had also made sure to have repaid the amount of money she had given him, thanks to which, he could clean himself up, and show up at Shinya's door, for the job interview that had changed his life forever. At the time, he had been saving every merciful coin and note he'd receive from passengers, and, as he thought about it now, he truly had no idea whether he would have still made the interview if his mother hadn't helped him. The fact, however, still remained that she did. Half of the money from his first paycheck he'd ever received form Shinya, he had properly put in an envelope, addressed it to his mother with a letter he wrote as well, and walked himself to his old house to place it in the mailbox, hoping that maybe, by chance once again, she could see him from any of windows in their house, see that he was alive, and indeed doing very well; same as he had wrote in the letter anyways.
Quickly drying a why a runaway tear, he swiftly fixed the smeared bit of his black eye-liner, as he tried to avoid crying, and refrain from suddenly becoming and emotional sap, because he was Takanori, and Takanori wasn't an emotional man. He never had to be, he had to be strong, he had never had any time for that. However, now that he could at least relax a little, now that thoughts of his actual family, thoughts if his mother were resurfacing unannounced, he couldn't help but become just that; a stupidly nostalgic and emotional sap.
And maybe it was because he was getting married, the pressure of having to share a new life, or something else he had no clue of. Yet, he wasn't stupid, he knew he owed her, and his family in general, more than just half a check, he owed them his life. He wouldn't have been here without them, and truth be told, on one of the most important days of his life; he sure as hell would have liked to have them both present.
-Aaw … our groom is getting all emotional … - kindly cooed Yutaka, holding Takanori's shoulders, as he lowered his head, to the younger's level, who was trying the best he could to hold in tears that he really didn't know whether or not uncalled for, as he kept looking at the ceiling -... turn around, let me help you fix this … it is kinda smeared now ...- carefully explained Yutaka, turning around the younger in his chair, while smiling his usual comforting smile, as Takanori left him oblivious of the real reason behind his tears
-I-I am fine … really … I just ...- tried to excuse Takanori, while slightly sniffing and airing himself with his hands in the process -... I guess I can be emotional too uh? Where is Shinya? He was supposed to help me with my hair, not that I can't do it myself but you know, I had planned on that, and everything was supposed to go by the plan, and we are like thirty minutes away now, and this was supposed to happen ten min- began to frantically ramble Takanori, while Yutaka was still working on his face, and trying to look apologetic to the fact that he clearly had no idea, but the younger's ramble was suddenly interrupted, when Shinya rushed in, pulling up his sleeves, and walking right behind the groom, with a bright smile
-Sorry sorry sorry … I know this is your big day! Sorry ...- continuously apologized Shinya, as he began to quickly comb Takanori's hair, who badly wanted to narrow his eyes in a menacing stare at the blond from the dresser's mirror, but Yutaka was still working on them
-It was Yuu right? Wasn't it? ...- hissed Takanori, trying the best he could to somehow get Shinya's attention -... he probably looked you in the first bathroom, you guys got at it, and lost track of time! I'll punch him real good when I see him - he concluded, clenching both his fists
-Oh now now Tacchan … - playfully began Yutaka, concluding his final touch -... he is here now, isn't he? I don't think you need to resolve to any of that, not on your wedding day uh? ...- pointed out the taller brunette, at which Takanori merely rolled his eyes, and crossed his arms, keeping his head as steady as possible, allowing Shinya to apply the brown extensions, under his black hair.
-And … voila' … - announced Shinya, as he turned Taknori to knew face the mirror, a good twenty minutes later - how is it? Like it? ...- inquired Shinya, receiving an extremely grateful smile from Takanori, who was about to say something but was interrupted by Yutaka, who was at the doors, and restlessly glimpsing at his wristwatch
-You look breathtaking Takanori, absolutely fantastic, Kouyou will fall for you all over again, I can swear you that, but we need to hurry up for him to do so, because we are about to run late- quickly explained Yutaka, as Takanori jolted out of his seat followed in Toe by Shinya, as they went out of the room, crossed a little yard, and found themselves in front of the entrance of the civic building where the legal procedure was about to take place. Finally the moment they had all been waiting for, all, but two people he knew he had no reason to be expecting, and which he quickly fixed in his mind not to allow ruin such a day for himself, and Kouyou it.
The glass doors opened, and Yutaka and Shinya quickly went and stood by Kaoru and Yuu, joining Akira, with his wife and a few other people. In front oh himself, at the end of the room, standing by a civil officer, waited, dressed up in a black tux, a rather nervous but still as cute as ever Kouyou, whose smile and almost endearing clumsiness, had been enough to make Takanori quickly forget about his current turmoil, and made him firmly walk on to join him in his own white tux.
-We are here today ...- began the civil officer, once Takanori had reached Kouyou, as they shyly looked at each other, almost in a repeat of that day, five years ago, when Kouyou first appeared in Metrò -... to legally join Takashima Kouyou and Matsumoto Takanori, in ma- kept professing the officer, whom however interrupted himself as the glass doors opened again, making everyone turn around, including the almost newly weds.
At the sight of the two people that came in, Takanori could have sworn not feeling his heart beating any longer, and he couldn't feeling the sudden stream of tears that was rolling down his cheeks either. At the sight of his elder brother, and his mother, standing right there in front of him, all the mental walls he had carefully built to shield his weaknesses fell. He couldn't think straight anymore, he was so overwhelmed and overjoyed by their appearance, even though his father hadn't come, it was alright, jut this, still meant the world for him.
With his mind in momentary total disarrangement, he turned his messed up face towards Kouyou with a questioning look, wondering if he had been the one to have invited them, but Kouyou merely shook his head, as if perfectly understanding, and then nudged his chin in the direction behind the shorter, who quickly turned around, and saw Shinya making a quick smile, and a peace sign
-You can go and hug them if you want ...- kindly proposed Kouyou, almost in a whisper, smiling at the still sobbing and almost hiccuping shorter, whom however, quickly shook his head, and quickly cleaned his black eye-lined eyes, with the white sleeves of his tux
-l-lets... fi-finish this ...f-first ...- smilingly sobbed Takanori, turning to face the officer, while Kouyoou readily nodded in agreement
-Thus … - resumed the officer, kindly smiling at Takanori, who was still in the process of trying to find a way to calm down -... we are all here today to legally join Takashima Kouyou and Matsumoto Takanori in matrimony. Please, do sign here - concluded the officer, walking behind a podium, followed by Kouyou and Takanori, whom as told, took turns to sign their legal document, all the while, Takanori would glimpse up at the faces he had longed to see, making sure that they were still there and that they weren't a figment of his imagination -well … - then resumed the officer, once they had both done -... I can now pronounce you groom and groom - lightly chuckled the officer, as everyone in the room clapped, while Kouyou leaned forward to give a chaste and tender kiss to his now lawful husband
-Go ...- then encouraged the taller brunette -... Go and greet them, it's been how long now? … a long time I suppose- whispered Kouyou, receiving an affirmative nod from Takanori, as he soothingly passed his hand over the younger's arm
-Come with me ...- kindly requested Takanori, who held Kouyou's hand tightly enough, to clarify any doubt regarding the fact that he was currently, yes happy, yes excited, but also as nervous as shit
Once in front of his family, Taknori left Kouyou's hand in manageable conditions, as he speechlessly stared at but faces, while biting his bottom lip
-... I- he began, but was immediately interrupted by his mother, who impulsively brought him into an almost smothering hug
-Congratulations Takanori ...- whispered his mother, pulling away, and holding his face with both hands, and staring at him with joyful and teary orbs -... congratulations to you, and ...- she then turned around, politely bowing at Kouyou, who promptly repeated the gesture to the woman, as well as to the elder brother -... my new son, Kouyou-kun ne?- she then called for safety measures
-Yes Matsumoto-san ...- politely smiled in reply the taller, bowing once again
-Well, then, please do call me kaa-san, okay, since you are now part of the family, even though ...- she explained, as her expression slowly saddened, thinking about what she was about to say -... Otoo-san, he … well, Takanori he ...- she tried to explain, also glimpsing at Kazuo, whom looked as mortified, but Takanori quickly took the situation into hands
-It is alright mom ...- reassured Takanori looking both at her and Kazuo -... saying that I wouldn't have loved to see him here, would be a lie, but this, seeing you two here, right now, is beyond anything I could have every imagined or wished for, so it is okay, it is perfect- exclaimed Takanori, feeling himself newly on the verge of tears
-Oh Takanori ...- sighed his mother, in cheerful resignation -... Terachi-san told us about your graduating from school, about the good top job you were able to land, about a lot of other things … and … I am so very proud of you, so proud - began his mother, newly cupping his son's cheek - … and I wish I had known about all this accomplishments, and maybe to have been there to celebrate them with you - she concluded, as Takanori gently shook his head in reassurance
-You are here now ...- he explained, holding his mother's hands on his cheeks -... that is all that matters, thank you, thank you so much ... thank you!- he concluded, as a few tears escaped, while he removed his mother's hands, and took them in his - … please excuse me for a moment … - he then requested, looking at everyone -... I need to talk to a certain long-haired blond - he explained, as they all nodded, allowing him to turn around and spot Shinya in the mist of the talking little crowd
-Shinya ...- he then called, once he reached the blond, who turned, and smiled down at the younger
-Congratulation, little one … - expressed the taller, as Takanori lowered his head trying so hard, but in vane, not to cry again
-I … - shakily began Takanori
-You don't need to thank me, I just- began Shinya, waving off his hands, but whom was interrupted, by the younger
-No please … let me finish- politely requested Takanori, receiving a silent nod from the elder - I don't think there exist words, or actions that I could use, or do, in order for me to repay you for all you have done for me … - began Takanori, as he finally held his head high, and directed his gaze to Shinya's now slightly emotional one - … you've been a light, you've been shelter, you've been and still are family, and I was seriously lucky, and blessed, and what more, I … just … I … thank you Shinya, with the bottom of my overjoyed heart, thank you so very much - he concluded, hugging the taller, whom as he returned the embrace, sniffed a couple of times
-You are welcome Takanori … - whispered Shinya, as they still kept their embraced stances -... if you ever need me again you already know where to find me … I'll always be there for you - he concluded, as they slowly broke their embrace, allowing each other, another tender smile, before Takanori's eyes landed on Yutaka, who was smiling and shying his gaze away behind the blond
-Hello “Mr. groom”, came to brag? … - teasingly remarked Yutaka, as Takanori successively approved him, and merely smiled back in reply, and without a single word, closed their distances, and hugged him the best he could -... okay … not exactly my concept of bragging, but … I definitely like this better - concluded Yutaka, who wrapped his own arms around the shorter as well
-I still have to do so many things ...- suddenly began Takanori -... such as conquering the world, so you better be around for me to brag when I do so ...- he then playfully admonished, as they abandoned themselves in their usual careless laughter
-I wouldn't want to be left out on that one … just leave me Italy, deal? ...- teasingly requested Yutaka, waiting for Takanori's reply, as they broke apart
-Deal - readily replied Takanori, smiling once more, after which he newly joined his family, and husband and guide everyone to the reception where they ate, danced, laughed, cried, talked to no end, and cried some more. It all went perfect, and Takanori really had no idea to whom he was supposed to turn too, in order to express his thanks for such a fairy-tale happy ending.
-So apple of my eyes, joy of my life, light of my heart ...- began to call Kouyou, who was gracefully laying sideways, on the bed of the five stars hotel suit he had booked for them to stay for the night prior to their flight to Dubai, where they would have spent their honeymoon
-... you forgot sweet-heart-honey-bunny, mon-amor-mon-petit, da~rling?- playfully pouted Takanori, puffing his cheeks as he turned around from the breathtaking view outside the window, and folding his arms in a sign of pretense offense
-How about you come over here, and I make it up to you, without the use of a single word that isn't either your name, or my name said, excuse me let me correct that, yelled by you ...- nonchalantly proposed Kouyou patting the spot next to him on the huge bed, as Takanori mischievously screamed, and slowly made his way around the bed keeping his eyes fixed on his husband, and finally, after deciding that the poor man had waited long enough, he gracefully placed himself on the reserved spot next to the elder
-How high will you make me scream? … - sensually whispered Takanori, wrapping his arms around Kouyou, whose laps he was now sitting on
-So high, you'll find out you didn't even know you actually could ...- replied the elder in another whisper, as they both lowly chuckled and exchanged a mildly passionate kisses, which served as a taste of what was to come
-And … - then began Takanori, clasping his hands with Kouyou, while locking their gaze -... how far do you think will life take us? ...- he then inquired, expecting another cheesy sentence from the elder, which he didn't mind, even though deep inside he truly meant the question it is literal meaning
-Wherever we'll want it to go ...- replied Kouyou, bringing their hands together “... I'm going to use an analogy that Reita would, but I think it does the job ...- added the elder, making the younger smirk “... you could say that we are the car, and life is the road ...- he began, nodding to himself while giving his analogies -... there are times will go 120 mph, times we will go very slow, times we'll get very lost, times there will be only one way to go, times where we'll brake down … - continued Kouyou in his explanation, as Takanori found himself surprisingly nodding to everything and fining that it actually did kind of made sense -... but we are the once in control, we are the once driving down the road, so it is really up to us … just got to get on it, and keep going ...- concluded Kouyou kissing Takanori's hands
-So then … - then spoke Takanori, suspiciously eying the elder -... how far do you want to take us? ...- he inquired
-With you … - began Takanori, softly pecking the younger on hi sips -... all the way baby - he concluded
-Like Bonnie and Clyde? ...- playfully cooed Takanori, in an incredibly cute way, as Kouyou lightly laughed
-Un, baby ...- affirmed the elder, skilfully pinning the younger to the bed, and getting over him -... like Bonnie and Clyde - he concluded, as they began kissing, after which, followed not too shy caresses, and clothes began to fly, as the most incredible day in Takanori's life was about to get to end, and the brightest days of the rest of his life; were about to begin.
