I've followed this (then deviated EXTREMELY, obviously) for an icontest entry, because I love the effect so much.It rocks. :D If I remember and/or can find this tutorial again when the results come back, I'll show it. ^_^

thanks, I discovered the effect just by playing around a bit with gradients and the opacity, Glad it helped, and I'd love to see the entry :)

Great Tut! I have a question though... where did you find those brushes that you used? I'd really like to use the same brush. :D Thanks a mil.

I'm sorry, I tried to find out who made the brush but I really don't know :\
As for the tiny text brush, well those are everywhere, just take a look at 100x100_brushes..
sorry that I can't help you more...

hmmm, Do you use photoshop? If you do, would it be too much if I asked for the brushes from you? Thanks again. :p

I used the steps you had before the brushes and the icon I have now is what I got. I'm really happy with it. Thank you so much, this is a really excellent tutorial. :p

yes I use photoshop, though I'm not sure how I could 'give' you the brushes...
I suppose you could copy and paste the brush I posted in the tutorial in your photoshop program. Then you could go to edit --> define brush, and you would have it as a brush..

Here is the tiny text brush, it's by ohpaintbrush
