i've struggled with a long addiction to Coca-Cola (hate pepsi) and have had some success with drinking more seltzer or mineral water lately. There's a brand of cherry seltzer - Zazz - that isn't sweet at all, just has cherry smell really - that helps. Don't know if it is the bubbles but try that. I can't do any form of diet soda as I'm too sensitive to the artificial sweetners. Iced tea is often a good substitute if you want the caffeine but not the sugar.

It's very hard as soda has been more of a treat and craving than many things for me. Hope these suggestions help. Also, which WW plan are you doing? I've decided to join but am not sure whether to do points or core or what ...

I do flex...the points because I can track that easier. You can always change what you are doing after you reach your first 10%. Personally I like all the tracking. I can be very OCD about it. LOL

One of the things I do instead of drinking lots of soda is I'll get soda water and squeeze lemon into it. I really like it, it handles my "bubbles" craving (Because that's really what I'm after), it has no calories and no artificial anything. If you aren't a fan of plain soda water with lemon, you could do a half and half with fruit juice as well - it cuts the sweetness of the juice and adds bubbles ( ... )

well I think if I always get water at the theater that will help. If I go to the movies with J he gets the snacks so if he knows ahead of time NO SODA he'll get me to stick with that.

I've never been a big fan of the soda water. Maybe I should try again with the lemon juice and see if that makes a difference.

I knew you would have something to say on this. ;)

You say tracking is a big thing for you - as you say, you can be OCD about it. How about using that to your advantage? Along the side where it has checkboxes for "water" "veggies," etc., add your own box for "soda" and put ONE check box next to it. Once you've checked it off, you're done for the day.

I wish I had more advice for you. I used to be a coca cola addict. I'd have one in the morning when I got to work, one with lunch, one with dinner. When I started WW, i was horrified at how many points I was taking in with soda alone, and I started to cut back. These days I tend to have coke only a few times a year, usually at a party. (I never got used to diet coke, so I just decided to cut out sodas in general.) I have OJ with breakfast, water all day, and if I'm out, I have iced tea or seltzer if I want something carbonated. I don't really know how I did it - just the motivation of wanting those points for food instead of drink, I guess.

You CAN do this.

you know that is a GREAT I idea!
Why didn't I think of that!
*grabs tracking book*

I know what you mean about some day it just clicks. I remember I got really sick with the flu a couple of years back and I couldn't stand the taste of soda after that. I stayed off Caffiene for 9 months after that. So I know it can be done. I just need that final trigger.

You could also try http://drinkgus.com/Grown Up Soda. It has less sugar than most soft drinks out there, and it tastes really yummy - not too sweet.

They sell it at Whole Foods. Maybe you could treat yourself to a 6 pack of it a week, or something?

I really like their extra dry ginger ale - it makes an excellent Jameson and Ginger ;)
