Hm. You actually just gave me most of the information I know a/b her now. So far, everything sounds pretty negative. I just wanted to point out the one positive thing I read: "Palin's first veto was used to block legislation that would have barred the state from granting benefits to the partners of gay state employees. In effect, her veto granted State of Alaska benefits to same-sex couples. The veto occurred after Palin consulted with Alaska's attorney general on the constitutionality of the legislation."
I was hoping McCain was just doing whatever he had to to win, and then was going to just go back to his old beliefs and ideals once elected and put in office. If elected, I doubt he'd bet on getting to run to reelection so I was hoping he'd treat it as his last term where he can get his own agendas accomplished. It's not looking as likely that this dream of mine is going to happen...
Thanks for this research, Big. :) Leading up to this week, I was unsure who I was going to vote for. I liked Obama during primary season (and even donated to his campaign and switched my party so I could vote for him in Pennsylvania's primary), but McCain isn't super-conservative so I wasn't completely turned off by him, either.
Obama's pick of Biden for VP didn't sway me one way or the other. By picking Palin, McCain didn't do himself any favors. He just lost the moderate vote and he certainly didn't gain the female vote. And he certainly lost my vote.
I still cannot decide whether this is more insulting to undecided voters, or hopeless for the McCain campaign. I have seen a few people who are genuinely excited because they think McCain is being a maverick again with this choice. Palin is one of the most inexperienced, nepotistic, small-scoped politicians out there. When she was originally tipped as a potential VP choice, she admitted to having no idea what the responsibilities of the position were, or if it was even worth her time.
And while this is just one of the smallest things in your list, she isn't just against putting polar bears on the endangered species list, she actually sued the Secretary of the Interior when he ruled that they should be given protected status.

and as for Palin, while she may have vetoed something that would take away gay-rights she has said that she is anti-gay marriage ::shrug::
and I italicized woman because that seems to be the real sticking issue as to why she was actually nominated...
