And on my way home from the train I found my car key that fell off of my key ring a few weeks ago. It still works after being buried in the ice and snow and occasionally driven over for two weeks. So now I don’t have to spend $100+ to replace it. Yea!

There are certain phrases and ideas that, as a Californian, have never entered my head. This is right up there. First, there's the whole idea that your key would still be in the same spot two weeks later, and then there's the reason why. I just can't quite imagine it. So basically, you dropped it and it got buried during the day and then when stuff started melting you found it two weeks later?
Hee. I thought you Californians might be amused by that statement. And yup. That's pretty much it :)
I was freaked out when I first realized that the key was missing thinking someone might find it and try it on all the cars of that make in my neighborhood. Then I began to be thankful for the ice and snow (the only time I've truly been thankful for the ice and snow) protecting it until I, constantly being on the lookout for it, could find it.
