Rest not in peace, good Doctor

sigh. Hunter's demise weighs heavy, more than usual for folks I haven't met. His words have definitely been friends through the years.
I'll still toast you on our shared birthday, man, like I always have. But it will be a sadder day knowing you aren't out there partying hard.

The news hit me hard last night. I have been reading Thompson for years, and many of his writings really resonated with me. They say that there is a thin line between genius and madness, and occasionally, Thompson crossed the line into Genius!

I shall raise a glass to his memory tonight. Hell, possibly the entire bottle!

I'm still trying to come to terms with it. Was damned near tears yesterday. I was always so proud to be living in the same state; I always kinda hoped I could go to one of his speaking engagements. Not to be, obviously.

The fact that he thought Bush is worse than Nixon still reverberates in my soul. It's really rather astonishing, considering the depth of hatred he had for ol' Tricky Dick. Now I wonder what else he might've thought, might've written, that we will never know about.

Well, now I know for sure what book I'll be bringing with me on vacation for killing airport time and the like: The Great Shark Hunt, of which I've never tired, if only because I can enjoy again and again the way he savages Nixon and the rest of the dirty crew. R.I.P., Doctor.
