Seriously... Why not try a story? You were taking care of someone sick who died and that person took care of all your expense. What do you have to lose if the truth isn't working?
Flat out lying is almost never a good idea. If you get caught out in any part of it, you'll be branded as a liar, and that's much worse than unstable.
Now, if you can take the truth and spin it into a compelling narrative, that's a much better way to go.
No doubt you've got an uphill climb. Have you got any longer tenures in your past? Emphasize those. Personally, I went through a streak of 4 jobs in 2 years, not contracts, but had 4 and 5 years in the jobs before those. It took a lot of effort to bring the discussion back to the better jobs.
