awww, how touching.

Thank you! I've always been touched by the loving relationship between Weatherby and Elizabeth ... that even when they're at odds over some matter or other, they never stop caring for one another.

what a lovely, sad insight.

It's easy to forget that both Weatherby and Elizabeth already have one shared tragedy in their life, with the loss of her mother. I'm not sure how much Elizabeth recalls of that sad event, but it must most certainly be forever burned into Weatherby's memory as the single worst day of his life. It must be his most dreaded nightmare, come to life, for him to believe he might have lost his only daughter, too.

Thank you so much for reading, and for your Comment! :-)

Well done- I'll bet that's exactly what Wetherby experienced!

And he still wanted to hang the 'miracle man.' Tisk!

Well done- I'll bet that's exactly what Wetherby experienced!

It had to have been a terrible, gut-wrenching moment for him -- realising what had happened, as well as the unlikelihood of Elizabeth surviving such a fall. He was right, indeed, to pray for a miracle!

And he still wanted to hang the 'miracle man.' Tisk!

LOL! Yes, that's gratitude for you, eh?

One has to wonder what was more distressing for Weatherby ... Elizabeth's fall and near-death experience, or finding her half-drowned, stretched out on the pier in nothing but her underwear, with this wild-looking creature crouched over her! I'm sure the poor Governor was in shock! ;-)

(And, of course, particularly in that day and age, many a proper father would rather see a daughter dead, than have her suffer "a fate worse than death"...)

Thanks so much for reading, and Commenting! I always appreciate hearing what you have to say! :-)

I'm surprised no one's thought to write this before. Gov does not get enough love in this fandom. You perfectly express any parents worst fear.

As am I! Considering how distraught James was at Elizabeth's fall (having known her only eight of her twenty years), Weatherby (having been her father all her life!) must have been at his wit's end, and beyond, once he realised what happened! One can only imagine what his reaction would have been! (Hence, this drabble!) ;-)

You perfectly express any parents worst fear.

Absolutely their worst fear! And having already lost a wife and child (at least, in MY version of Weatherby's backstory), to lose not only a cherished daughter, but the last surviving member of his once-happy family, would have been especially devastating to him! I'm so pleased you think I captured that feeling here!

Gov does not get enough love in this fandom.I wholeheartedly agree! There needs to be MUCH more Weatherby fic! He's such a great character, and I don't know why there's not been more fanfic devoted to him! (Of course, I try to do my part to fill that gap, whenever possible!) :-D ( ... )

My beautiful girl, what lovliness you've writ. And gosh, wouldn't your heart just be right up next to your ears!? Poor Weatherby to have lost most all his family and to be terrified that Elisabeth would be taken too==man, that's just gruesome. I'm so glad his prayer held her close to his heart, kept her from slipping away.

Well-done miz cat, very smooth piece with lots of bottom, makes me ever so pleased that I like reading.

Oh, thank you so much for saying so! :-)

Boy, I know what it's like to lose a beloved pet (I've lost three to cancer just since last April), but to be a parent, and lose a cherished child, must be at least a hundred times worse! Poor Weatherby indeed! What anguish he must have suffered, thinking he might have lost Elizabeth forever, too!

I'm so glad his prayer held her close to his heart, kept her from slipping away.

Thanks, as well, to the intervention of a certain golden-toothed pirate captain we all know and love! ;-) Little did he know that his prayers would send him a pirate. As they say, the Lord works in mysterious ways... ;-)

Oh, I'm so pleased you liked it! And, yes, it is sad to think what poor Weatherby might have been going through, believing Elizabeth might have been killed in the fall. It has to be a parent's very worst nightmare, come to life! :-(

we know the miracle is called jack !

Absolutely! (However, one might have thought that Weatherby would show a bit more gratitude toward the "miracle man" who saved his daughter, rather than ordering his death! The good Lord might be just a bit peeved that Swann ended up looking His gift horse in the mouth...) ;-)

Thank you so much for reading, and for taking the time to Comment! Much appreciated, I assure you! :-)
