Wow, I got the most hilarious picture of me walking up to some random person and being like HAY WHAT DO YOUR PRIVATES LOOK LIKE??!?

. . . okay, I thought it was funny, anyhow. =P I haven't decided how it ends... probably with the cops getting called on my ass.

I don't think I ever really thought about how that must be what everyone thinks of first and how lots of people will, well, just ask. Ugh.

You point out that transgender people often get offended when people they do no know real well ask them about their "bottom" and "bottom surgery."

Maybe an appropriate reply would be, "Sure I'll tell you, but first you tell me all about your "bottom", then we'll consider discussing my "bottom." "Maybe now is not a good time, as it is still very embarrasing to me."

Great comment. It's not that it is embarrassing to me personally. I am not embarrassed of my "bottom." I think it is just an inappropriate topic for me to share with people that are not very close to me. But I do like the...I'll tell you about mine if you tell me about yours first. It really makes them think... oh ya, I really am asking a stranger about their "bottom."
When I do talks and people that I have never seen before ask me about my bottom surgery plans, I like to inform them that some trans folks may get offended at that question and frame it as, well what if I were to ask you about your private parts? Most people are usually understanding of why it is an inappropriate question.
