Sigh. So it has happened.

Now basic accounts have advertisments, visible to anyone who isn't logged in. And I'm conflicted. Sure, luxshine is paid, so there are no advertisement here, and I'm going to flee as soon as we have a viable place to flee but lux_files is basic ( Read more... )

Honestly? I'm leaving my fic alone at pixeestyx. Sure, it's possible that people that are signed outu MIGHT see adds, but LJ is a business. They have to find a way to make money in a way other than LJ fees and, sadly, this is it. There's certainly worse things they could have done.

My issue is on the way they did it. They've been changing their tune and what is acceptable and what is not for the last two years, and every time, they take out a little bit more of what we signed in for at the beginning. If it was like, say, Insane journal that has ads, I wouldn't complain, as it was what I signed up for. It's the constant changing what bugs me. Basic accounts were supposed, according to Six Apart and later the russian company, to not have ads. That's what plus is for. And now, basic has ads, Plus has ads, and I'm honestly waiting for them to say that Paid accounts will have ads for those not logged in. May sound a bit pessimistic, but the way things are going, it wouldn't surprise me (Plus, I'm also afraid that sooner or later, they'll target RPF. I can't shake that feeling)

But they're a business. They have to adapt and it may not always be in the way that we like. They tried to do it in the least intrusive way possible to account holders - making them only visible if you're not logged in and really, how often does THAT happen?

I understand the business part, Den, I really do. The Ads themselves wouldn't be a problem, if it wasn't for everything else (I have an account on IJ, and one in GJ and both have ads, and it's ok. I knew that going in). The Tos changes, the general treatment of their userbase, and so on. I love LJ, I love all the friends I've made here, and honestly? A year ago I was toying with the idea of a permanent account. Now, I'm not so sure.

And I have to say... I never notice the ads. It's true. I never notice ads anywhere. LJ I have the blessing of a perm account, but yahoo, gmail, etc all have ads and I never pay any attention to them. I understand it bothers you to have it there, but not all of your readers notice it. :-)

lol. I wish I had your eyes. I have this awful tendency to read *Everything* so I notice ads, I notice popups, I notice viagra spam mails...

I'm studying wordpress right now for the Oubilette, so I'm also thinking about that possibility. I don't like blogger for fic posting since doing cuts is quite annoying, but that could be a good possibility...

Psst, the OTW is opening this year. It will have tagging, comments, emailing of comments and a lot of the social network stuff that we like about LJ. Hold on a bit, you might get the place you need pretty soon.

Will OTW accept RPS? Because that's one of the biggest issues with my fic. Most of what I write is popslash, and well, you know how many times RPS has had to migrate due to TOS and stuff like that.

OTW will absolutely allow RPS.
