I think it's easier to joke about people who are found innocent then the ones who end up guilty. Hence also OJ jokes. You don't hear Manson jokes (or...well, I'm having a hard time coming up with a celebrity famously found guilty of a felony) because it's uncomfortable to take it in a less than serious manner.

My second theory: Polansky is a Holocaust survivor, and nobody wants to be the guy who cracks jokes about any of them.

Thats a very good point, although more than the lack of jokes, I wonder why people are so eager to forgive Polanski and were so quick to condem Jackson
