The bridal gown saga continues

Thanks, everybody, for your helpful comments on the dresses I posted about two weeks ago. As you unanimously suggested, I did not return to the Pittsburgh shop to buy the Mon Cheri dress (although I swear y'all would like it better if you'd seen it in person), and by the next day I realized I'd been taken in by the saleslady's hard-sell, paid-on- ( Read more... )

(The Augusta Jones is the best one so far, I agree!)

I must say that I find the fact that you and Gray had a conversation about my wedding dress to be very amusing.

Those J. Crew dresses have been the topic of much discussion on IndieBride (have you been there yet? I love that site), and they look lovely, but I think I want something a little more traditional -- a bigger skirt, some beading, a train ... you know, all that Cinderella stuff.

There are lots of used Augusta Jones dresses for sale in the U.K., as it turns out, and since my dad goes over there all the time, it wouldn't be impossible for me to buy one. The exchange rate is bad, though, so it would have to be a really good deal for it to be worth it.

the British dress! ... missginabean September 11 2005, 22:32:46 UTC
is the best one so far. Other than its outrageous price-tag,
you seem the most excited about it, and I can picture you in it.
If your Dad is willing to bargain-shop the UK for you while he is over there, go for it!

Hope the semester has started up okay. How'd you do finishing up CPE??

blessings and peace from CT,
g

The gowns you've found are beautiful! I must say, you have inspired me to finally get off my duff and start looking around for real, rather than just browsing around pretending I'm shopping for somebody else's wedding ;-)

I was also grateful to see your comment about David's Bridal... having not actually been to one, I only had their website to reference, but I was suspicious of them at best. Needless to say, your account has now confirmed those suspicions! Your efforts were not in vain, Lyd ;-)

Good luck with your continuing search! Keep posting the details! :-D

Hi, me again! I just wanted to say that the Augusta Jones dress is the one I'm wearing! Not that it's a huge price difference, but I ordered mine from Kleinfeld in NYC and it was actually $1200...

Oh my gosh, we're dress twins!! (insert high-pitched merriment here, meant somewhat ironically, of course.)

I just ordered the Josie -- oh lovely Josie, my precious! -- on Friday, and will be posting some pictures as soon as I can get to my friend's scanner. I'm so in love with that dress ... I tried on a few others before making my final decision (including Augusta Jones' "Destiny," which is a very pretty dress as well), but finally concluded that they just don't come much more beautiful than Josie.

The $1500 that I'm paying includes the cathedral-length veil and the bustle, so maybe that justifies it? Or maybe I just got ripped off? Oh well. It does seem weird that it would cost less in New York City than in rural New Hampshire!

When's your wedding? And I didn't even know that ljindiebrides existed; I'll have to check that out. I joined weddingplans, but it's mostly 19-year-olds whining about how they don't like their maid of honor anymore.

Yay, congrats on ordering such a beeeautiful dress, if we do say so ourselves! I did try on another one of her dresses at Kleinfeld (although I can't find that one for sure on the Website -- maybe it was "Anushka"?) and I really liked the way they fit and the fact that even though they had beads and embroidery, they were much more unique than most of the others I'd seen. I've found out through google that, not surprisingly, a lot of brides in the UK wear this dress, but you're the only other person I know of here who's wearing it ( ... )

Not only is our dress popular in the UK, at least one French bride and her friends can be observed going gaga over it here: http://forum.aufeminin.com/forum/Mariage1/__f116150_Mariage1_Votre_avis_sur_ma_robe_amour_.html

I really like the way they fit and the fact that even though they had beads and embroidery, they were much more unique than most of the others I'd seen.

Yes, exactly! For a long time I thought I wanted a princessy Cinderella dress with a big puffy skirt, but then I realized that the Josie has the same ornate detailing, but is also more elegant and classy.

I'm tall, so I don't think I'll need a hem; I might wind up needing the bodice taken in a little, though.
