The cultural achievements of Canada (or at least, a part of it)

I saw this post over on Tumblr, and am still boggling.

I did not realize that this 'milk in a bag' thing is unique to Canada (or parts of Canada).

I think South Africa and either Iceland or Greenland also have bagged milk.

Huh - interesting.

Is it as predominant as in Canada? Because you can find these in every grocery and convenient store (in Ontario, at least).

I don't know. I'm in Ontario and I've never strayed from North America. The issue of bagged milk comes up about once a year or so in an lj community, ask_me_anything, so the few Canadians end up having to be the ambassadors of BaggedMilkia, and explain our strange customs to everyone else and how it doesn't go bad.

I used to live in northern Minnesota less than an hour from the border and we had milk in a bag all the time when I was a kid. I'm always surprised when people show shock and amazement seeing it like this.

I'm just shocked that it's not a normal thing like milk cartons - then again, I've never shopped for milk when in other locales. :)

You can get the cartons easily - less volume for a little more money - but the jugs are something I've only seen in Mac's, a convenient store, or in the US.
