So, we left off with day 1 of round 3. I don't really feel like going into day by day detail about it, but let's just say round 3 SUCKED. I lost 16 pounds in 8 days (mostly dehydration I'm sure), I ended up going in for IV fluids twice, changed acid control meds again, saw a GI specialist, learned that technically there isn't anything wrong with ( Read more... )

Are you not eating because you can't seem to do it or you can't do it because of medication complications? If you're suppose to be eating then please PLEASE try and do it. It's very hard, I know, but it's not impossible.

My dad and I literally had to tie my mom down and make her eat. She's strong for an old lady. I remember my dad called me because my mom got rushed to the hospital because she wasn't getting vitamins and she wasn't eating. When I got to the hospital, my mom had an IV in her but she was really skinny and could barley talk. I got back to my car and just completely broke. To this day it's the worst memory of my life. We ended up finding something my mom liked, Ensure drink, and she went through cases of it.

I think it's a combination of things. The acid reflux makes eating sound like a terrible idea, and then my stomach gets upset because it has too much acid and not enough food. It's this crappy cycle. I promise, I do try. It'll take an hour to eat a cracker, but damn it I eat that cracker. I'm getting better at forcing myself, and Charles is home those days to make me whatever whim I think I might be able to choke down.

I'm not wasting away. It lasts a few days and then I do my best to make up for it, and by the time chemo comes around again I've usually gained back about half of what I lost. Overall, I'm only down 12 total pounds after 4 rounds. That's basically the baby weight from Clara, you probably wouldn't even notice if you saw me. :)

You're not the first person to bring up Ensure. I should probably try it.
