Funerals

Went to my Aunt Ruth's funeral yesterday. She was 67, died of cancer. She found out on Christmas and died 12 days later. It has taken forever to get her in the ground. I am in my mid 40s and instead of going to wedding all the time and catching garters, I now seem to attend funerals and get to be a pall bearer. Makes you feel your mortality. ( Read more... )

I think it was perfect. She never had to linger in pain and face the horror of impending death. By the end she was out of it. My Uncle said that she would go from talking about her high school days to her physical pain. I cannot imagine knowing you had a terminal illness and had a long time to live with it. The fucking doctor is another thing though. She went in because she had chronic diarehia with blood in her stool. They ran thier tests. One day the doc came in and she cheerfully asked him "Well doc what did you find out" He bluntly told her they found cancer in her liver and bloodstream. He told her she had a 1-4 weeks to live. Fucking asshole. I guess that is a very stessful job, but Jesus, if you are that desensitized and you are that flipping smart that you could be doc in the first place, get some training and be some other kind of doc. On a lighter note, I am sure that she is all dolled up and strutting her stuff whereever she is now.

I keep thinking "...and thats the truth, Ruth".
I think its from Spike Lee's - Do The Right Thing, I think it was the DJ that said this.

You know I never saw that movie. I think I have seen bits and pieces of Spike Lee movies over the years. I probably would like them ( ... )
