Korea - Wrap up and shopping!
So I can definitely see why Japanese people will hop over to Korea for a weekend to do some shopping. 1) the food's good; 2) there are duty free stores abound and 3) right now the exchange rate favors the yen. I liked Seoul a lot, although it is frustrating to be there and not know any Korean. I definitely want to go back and explore Myeongdong ( Read more... ) -

Settling In
Finally sort of feeling settled in. Got paid on Friday! Of course the urge was to spend it all, but I kept myself in check...for the most part anyway. There's some spending that I have to do for the apartment; my fan broke on Friday and I don't have a microwave. Kyotanabe
Long overdue. Arrived in Kyoto from Tokyo via shinkansen last week. From there it was go go go. No time to get over jetlag. My supervisor had us out getting phones the first day and for the remainder of the week out buying things for the apt. Tokyo!
And in Tokyo!! On the one hand, because we've been sitting in orientation seminars and stuff it feels like we've been here awhile. On the other, because I haven't really gotten to see any of the city, it feels very short. Orientation's ok. Seminar quality varies greatly and I feel like a lot of the info will be useless when I actually arrive ( Read more... ) -
NYC!
Spent what is probably going to be my last weekend in NYC. Had a pre-departure meeting on Saturday at the Nippon Club in midtown before heading out with the girls later that night. The pre-departure thing was informative, but after awhile my eyes were definitely glazing over. It was good to meet some people who will be in my area in Japan though ( Read more... )
