It's so good that you managed to succeed in track, even with family stress on about.

where all students were allowed to participate in sports teams with no exceptions.
Required to participate, maybe? Or did you mean that all sports teams had to accept all students who wanted to participate?

Your dad was pushing you so hard, it was hard to tell whether the school was doing that too--or just letting you onto the teams that your dad guilted you into joining. Yeesh, what if you hadn't inherited track blood, what then? There's nothing quite so miserable as a parent trying to make you live (or relive) their dreams ( ... )

In my high school, students were NOT allowed to be cut from any team. Freshman were always on Freshman teams, if there was not a freshman team, it was JV. Seniors were automatically on a varsity team. If you wanted to participate, they had to let you.

Though by junior year, for most people, I would say... unless you were really into a sport, the numbers on sports teams dwindled because students would find other things to do aside from sports.

Well told! A great story about personal growth, especially during those years when that sort of growth seems to be demanded of us, yet you made the conscious choice.

I love your stuff! You're so tough and I love that you have the ability to self-assess and course correct. It's easy to say that you have to be doing something for yourself to really be into it and excel at it, but it's much harder to actually do that, especially when you're dealing with family pressures and legacies and all that. Hell, even I felt proud of you at the end of this!

Great work :)
