What would you do for the cause?

I didn't see anything about this man in the news. I kinda wonder what effect extreme actions such as this can/do have. I'd hate to think that no one noticed... The media will stifle anything that could make people feel and do other than what the system wants. Otherwise actions like this could potentially be the ( Read more... )

actually its been all over the news, mostly when they first found him and had no idea why he had burned himself.

but i agree, this method is not productive in the least bit and in reality isn't going to bring any sort of peace, especially not to his friends and family.

let me clarify actually. haha. what i kept seeing on the news was mainly just footage of the finding (not detailed of his dead body of course). but this was just local news i saw it on, nothing national.

i don't have tv so i missed that coverage. but it seems strange that everyone will hear about/be talking about other things that happen (for example, the diamond steakhouse burning), but not this.

maybe its just because the coverage was so vague. this is the first i've heard about the actual content of the letter & video.

I'm not really an expert or anything (and I'm not really trying to sound like one, but it may come out that way), but I went to journalism school and worked for a newspaper for a little bit (only 3 months...ha), so I can shed a bit of light on media coverage. Covering suicides is generally considered super taboo and a big no no- celebrity ones get covered, but only because they're celebrity deaths. In this case it could be argued that it should get some coverage because it was pretty exceptional circumstances- but no doubt, they chose not to potentially ignite controversy ( ... )
