OH MY GOD I CAN'T TAKE A BOOK ON THE 11-HOUR FLIGHT.Although you are allowed essential medical supplies...I wonder if I could construct a case from this? I have the appropriate research references at my fingertips...but then, I'd probably just get arrested or shot or something given the current trigger-happy state of, well, everybody ( Read more... )

When are you travelling? The current state ("loopy") is unlikely to persist.

Monday. I rang up and asked them whether they would still be loopy then, and they said yes.

Well, yes. If people read they are more likely to think for themselves, and that would never do! They might start thinking dangerous and seditious things, like that the UK's security might be improved by not bombing people and encouraging everyone else to bomb people, and where would we be then?

But surely a paperback...? What am I likely to do, tear the pages out and shove them down people's throats?

I'm a librarian. I would never tear pages out of a book!

Let me guess. You're off to America, right?

YOU WILL NOT TAKE A BOOK ON THE FLIGHT BECAUSE YOU WILL HIDE BOMBS IN IT AND BLOW US ALL UP! YOU ARE A TERRORIST! GO DIRECTLY TO CAMP X-RAY! DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS!

I can't take a book on the flight and I'm only going to Japan - and while this may be tempting fate horribly, I don't think flights to Japan are likely to be the prime terrorist target. I'm not worried about being blown up, in fact I think I would rather take my chances with the terrorists than be deprived of books.

He's coming 'ere. Getting off a flight into the not-sensible that is Bangalore in a nicotine starved rage is likely to result in, um, an unpleasant situation.

That distressed hamster is the cutest thing I've ever seen! (And of course, let me mumble my sincere concern as to the situation of import... etc...)
