Tomorrow I go for a consultation on Lasik surgery. For those of you living under a rock - that's where they peel back part of your corner and then laser to reshape hopefully fixing myopia and astigmatism ( Read more... )

I've thought about it for myself and decided that once the Lasik doctors stop wearing glasses themselves, I'll be more trusting.

Dude, I've been wearing glasses since 4th grade, contacts since high school and I was told recently that I have 2500 vision, and there is still NO WAY I will ever do lasik. My vision may be bad, but it's correctable. If the doc screws up the procedure, that's it, the damage is done and there's no going back. *shudder*

And here's what Kathy Griffin has to say about what happened to her. http://www.kathygriffin.net/lasik.php
I'm thinkin' that if some high-paid celebrity doc can fuck up a celebrity's vision (multiple times!), it can happen to us regular folk, too.

Do you wear contacts? I'm perfectly happy with those--and they allow you to wear whatever cool sunglasses you want.

Good luck!

I only wear glasses part time (driving, at the movies, etc), but I think I'd be afraid to have a lazer in my eye. I get why people have it done - and I know a few people who have had success with it. It just gives me the heebie-jeebies.

My two cents on the whole thing... your miliage may vary. :)

Hi Hon.

I can't really throw my two-cents in here because I'm not really up-to-date on the subject and I don't wear glasses. From what I just read it sounds rather scary. However, I'm sure there are an equal number of websites praising the effects. There is, after all, risk with everything.

I just want you to know that I support any decision you make, and if there is anything you ever need, I'll be there for you as much as I can (since you are now far away and I can't immediately promise to live with you for a week to take care of you, but I will make arrangements as best as possible). You are a smart cookie and I'm sure you will do tons of research, both for pros and cons, before making your decision.

Love you. Good luck.

I say do it. I've wanted to for forever, but yeah. Hesitation and money and all that, so never got real serious. Didn't we talk about this when we were in Washington?

Do it and then tell me how it went. :)
