Definitely burned out on sewing, but got a lot done yesterday. I used my downtime at work to cut out the daytime bodice for the blue and silver dress, and I stitched it together when I got home. I'll cut out the lining at work today, M's evening waistcoat, and all the interfacing that I'll need, and then I can assemble everything tonight at home ( Read more... )

I'm nearing the finish line with the ballgown, thank the sewing gods. I spent the weekend putting the waistbands on the new petticoats, fitting the bodice, and finishing up the gown skirt. Had a massive scare yesterday when Parker county decided to set itself on fire. We had some hellacious winds, and when it's as dry as it has been, it's a recipe for wildfires. Managed to really do a number on my hands while I was sewing last night. I was working on flossing the corset, which is usually no big deal. Since I'm using the synthetic whalebone, I can actually sew right through it just like on originals with real whalebone, so I was excited to try some new flossing patterns! Besides house hunting, I took the rest of my 3-day weekend to work on the 1872 corset. Things went considerably slower than I anticipated. I thought I could wrap up what was left on Saturday and then knock out some of the gown skirt on Monday, but NOPE. The internet went out at the house last night so I ~gasp~ was productive instead! I reinforced all the corners of the bust and hip gussets on my corset with some dense satin stitch, and they definitely feel more secure now.
