The Host "Sci-Fi for people who hate Plot"

Jul 12, 2010 22:02

I wish I could start my adventure into the world of live journal with a positive post. Something about puppies and kittens or the beauty of Alan Rickman's voice. Unfortunately, the thing that drives me to write today is the poorly written book known as The Host, by none other than Stephenie "Sparkling Vampires" Meyer.

Welcome to LJ! I have followed your videos at YT though I've never commented (or perhaps I did and don't remember)... anyway, I plan to ammend that here ^^

I was always intrigued by The Host, I was thinking on giving it a chance, but at the same time, I thought it was a rip-off of Animorphs...

Anyway, by the look of your review I'm glad I did't buy it. As bad as Evermore, you said... that's enough for me, I'll never even borrow it...

See you!!

PS: I friended you, hope you don't mind ^^

Of course I don't mind. :)

Yeah, this book was worse than Evermore. >:(

Now I'm trying to finish Bree Tanner so I can officially be done with Stephenie Meyer.

I'm glad to suffer it means no one else will have to. It doesn't even deserve to be touched.

Oooo, Melina got a LJ! I'm excited to see your future posts.

Anyways, the idea of an alien race coming to change humanity "for its own good" is similiar to Childhood's End, except that that story had moral and ethical conflict. It was essentially Animorphs without the depth or moral ambiguity. Well said.

I gotta say, when I saw the like teaser or whatever for the book talking about a girl who refused to let the alien take over, I thought it was interesting. Then I saw another that revealed there was twu luv in this too and I lost a little interest. But this has shown that, the thing that made me kinda want to read it was missing. So, thanks.

I really tried reading this over a year ago, and the last thing I remembered reading in that book was something about Wanda being in the desert and Melanie constantly nagging her about drinking too much from the water bottles. I shouted, "SHUT UP!!!!!!!" and returned the book to the library. Thanks to your awesome review, I don't regret never finishing the book, and it's rare for me to not finish a book once started.

Yeah, Melanie was just so obnoxious. I wanted her to go away and I have idea why Meyer said that Melanie was "the strongest woman you'd ever met." Being annoying doesn't make you strong >.
