The Host "Sci-Fi for people who hate Plot"

Jul 12, 2010 22:02

I wish I could start my adventure into the world of live journal with a positive post. Something about puppies and kittens or the beauty of Alan Rickman's voice. Unfortunately, the thing that drives me to write today is the poorly written book known as The Host, by none other than Stephenie "Sparkling Vampires" Meyer.

Oh Melina, haven't you noticed so far that Stephenie Meyer + Good = Does not compute and will never, ever, ever compute?

And I have to say the worst thing about this book is that I share the name of the female protagonist (Melanie). So... if this book gains the popularity that Twilight has gotten I am... screwed. (Fuck you Meyer... fuck you.)

Don't bother with Meyer. Read John Connolly or Neil Gaiman or Victor Kelleher instead. Don't destroy anymore brain cells.

Very true, reading Meyer is like driving a screw through your brain, unnecessary and not fun

Wow....

I mean, I was going to give it a chance, but wow....

Wow....

SMeyer, you make me so angry.

I'm watching your youtube video and I can't tell if you're laughing or crying at the end, and I'm right there with you.

I can tell you that Bree Tanner isn't going to do anything for you either, I don't know much about it, but apparently Stephenie Meyer's version of dark murderous vampires including scaling walls while humming the spiderman theme and another. Inexplicable. May/December romance. The woman just writes the same book over and over.

I fear for you having to read that.

I just had a conversation about this book with a friend today. She wants me to read it. I was thinking about it and then I saw your review...I am not gonna read this book! I thought the Twilight series was the most terrible thing but this sounds even more aweful.
How is this a bestseller? I don't get it...

Eh...
I once wanted to buy this book, but I got this bad itch while staring at the cover and a voice mumbled to me that I shouldn't take the chance to spend money on something Meyer had written. So I thought to myself 'damned be the spoilers' and I looked for the whole plot on wikipedia and some forum. I also dared to read the first pages on amazon. I was far from impressed. In fact, the spark of interest I might have had melted and I started to hate Wanda without even having read the book. Sooo I spared myself some bucks and seeing how tortured you are, I did good. If I end up reading it anyway, it will be for the sole purpose of bitching about it for fun (I tried with Evermore and failed. It was a bad experience)
Ah- Excellent review. Good luck with Bree Tanner. I suppose it will be just as awful as anything this woman has produced until now. She really frightens me.

Don't get your hopes up with Meyer. Just expect the very worst from her and you won't ever be disappointed.

Agreed. Like Stephen King said, she can't write worth a darn.
