recently I was made to realise that people are actually selfish in this world. they care about their own safety and security more than their friends. This thought was foreign to me. How can someone care more about themselves? I don't understand, my worst moments is seeing someone in pain that I can't help. I would do anything to take that pain from ( Read more... )

Truly putting others before yourself is to realize that they may not reciprocate. If that's the primary concern, that they don't feel the same way about you... then can you really say your thinking about them first? I'm not saying you aren't, or in anyway suggesting yourselfish... just pointing out the kind of paradox that exists.

I think, to be truly selfless is to put the safety of others before your own, without consideration of their selflessness--how they feel about or treat you, with respect to your safety and security. Trying to do that, and even failing or only making it partway, is extremely laudable, because so many people don't try.

Well I usually don't care, and it wouldn't matter much. but now that I am questioning my belief structure, this happens to be one of the questions that comes about
