So, last night, for want of anything else to do, I was searching Getty Images for pretty pictures. I found 'em.

I saw Fred Astaire in blackface in... I thnk it was Swing Time? And had the same reaction. Especially because I saw it in context and it added nothing to the film in terms of plot at all.

Yeah, I remember laughing really freaking hard when I saw Fred "blacking up" or whatever. In that case I don't really mind, because it was so damn common in musicals back then and they didn't know any better. But Stroheim?! JEEZ. :(

I enjoy the Bojangles number once I get past how freaking weird Astaire looks in blackface. I like the shadow effect they do on the wall.
