World's End

Presenting one and all - my new project. Not entirely sure on the format yet, this is just my ideas.

Me and Geoff are currently working on the alpha build of the rules, then I can really get to grips with the background and plot etc.

What do y'all think as an idea?

Sounds interesting. Depending on then where and when I might be tempted.

Sounds like a really good idea to me. There's nothing like en epic, dimension spanning struggle with the whole of creation hanging in the balance to clear out the sinuses.

First: Though the idea of an interdimensional pub is not unique, if you're going to use the name "Worlds End" you may want to think about checking with Neil Gaimen.

(I know people don't generally worry about copyright when they're doing non-profit LARP, but I thought it was worth mentioning.)

Second: Are you planning to mix genres or just worlds? Would we see cyborgs and wizards standing shoulder to shoulder with superheroes and vampire slayers, or would it be restricted to, say, the Fantasy milieu?

Third: Sounds good to me.

As far as I'm aware, World's End Inn isn't copyrighted since it's based on existing myths - but thanks for that. I may well do, or else at least change the name :D

As far as technology / time etc goes, probably not going to have anything from the future but up to present day will be catered for. I'm having a technology limit on things up to darkpowder / napoleonic era stuff for IC reasons, so cyborgs and technomancers probably are out for the most part. I hadn't considered superheroes, I must admit, but it's a possibility. I know the magic framework I wrote that Geoff's helping me develop will cover arcane magic, clerical magic and also *shudder* psionics using the exact same framework - it's very much about formua rather than source.

May have a look at potentiality for superheroic traits, but was aiming more at mid/high fantasy style. Hmmm...

I don't generally see as psionics fit into fantasy (it's more a sci-fi conceit IMO), but I think they'd work quite well for a character coming from a setting approximating modern-day earth. You'd be an X-Files level psychic or something ... and it's not too much of a step from there to a modern-day psionicist who behaves as, or sees himself as, a superhero. (Though obviously in the comics superheroes rarely have to worry about fuelling their abilities, as magic/psionic systems tend to do in LRP ( ... )

Ish... there will be Svartalfar in it, but they're mostly gonna be Nordic-style filthy evil bastards, the majority of which have gone over to the enemy. None of this "I love everything" Drizzt carp.. my Dark Elves are evil scum. As are most of the Unseelie Court. Which is why very few people will be allowed to play Unseelie Fair Folk. (This will not be based on any clique lovings, for those so concerned, but more on a "I'm only allowing a very limited number of Unseelie Fair Folk" thing)

Sound like it has potential but expect to have a few people turning up trying to play Morpheus. : )

One recommndation I would make: WRITE THE BACKGROUND AND BASIC PLOT FIRST. People wil disagree with me on this one but I strongly believe that rules support the game world, not the other way round. Writing the game world first will make the whole thing hang together and keep the focus right. At the end of the day, people will remember the plot long after they have forgotten the rules.

I've done this both ways round and the latter game, where the world was written first was the successful one.

I await flaming. : )

I've got a fairly strong idea of what I want the game to run like, and for some reason my creative head is working better for rules than campaigns (ironically enough)

My plan is to write the very basic Alpha rules, then write the backgroundin much more detail, then adapt both to work together
