Are you a Christian? Their hero hung out with the prostitutes and the lowlifes because that's where the most good could be done. Society gains hugely when people heroically hang on where nobody else would, and raise the underclass towards the favoured few

No easy choices

Am I a Christian? hahahahaha! no, actually I'm a kind of New Age atheist. I really don't believe there's a god but I am directed by a sense of obligation to do the most good possible when a situation presents itself to me. (maybe I do believe in karma??)

Important note: I wasn't offered the job and won't hear anything for a week.

Of course I want what other people want. I took this job because I needed the money. But I also think people who live in luxury while ignoring the pain of others are assholes.

On the other hand do I want to sacrifice my life for the screw ups and ignorance of the population I try to serve? How futile is it to help people who don't help themselves?
PS. Working with privileged white girls is a MINUS point as far as my socialist self is concerned :)

My daughter lives in Philly and works in Cherrry Hill NJ (on the East side) but I think it's only about 10 miles each way, 'course then there's the bridge tolls -- but -- small world, huh? She just moved to a new place somewhere in Fishtown. Loves the city life -- even has a basement. Wow, hey?

Take the better job and start an exchange program where a few kids come to the better school for a few days or spend some time in a better environment. You can help people in all sorts of other ways when you yourself are in a better position.
