At work today I talked about how to avoid designers of virtual clothing being bitchy with you, by pretending to do things they can't but rely on intrinsically.
It is I am told a serious problem. Everyone is a diva. I can do things they can't etc and they tend to be very polite with me, but other people complain all the time, so I was passing on a little advice as to how to fake it.
I also discussed how to structure plots when you don't know what the actual settings and characters in those plots are going to be until they are actually created, and you don't have anything but the vaguest control over when that happens or what the actual results will be.
I work as... on my cards I have "Virtual Technologist". Consultant and contractor for things involving online virtual realities, pretty much all Second Life at the moment.
I'd like to work on my own Second Life but without dying.
(I imagine you've already heard all the jokes about "virtual technologist" in that *I* could call myself virtual technologist but that would only be in the virtual world, and not a reality. Actually I'm becoming less and less a technology virtuoso. I'm just too lazy to want to bother with new stuff)
haha no, i am a direct support person for people with mental problems. sometimes - like that day - the client will sleep through most of the shift, and i can just laze about. other times i have to do things like put cream on an old man's crotch rash, or help someone shower, or clean up diarrhea.
Yeah, your job is way more interesting than mine. Most of the time I'm there by myself so if I'm talking, it's to myself. ;p But sometimes I talk to my daughter on msn - she's about 10 hours away by car so I don't see her much. Then we usually talk about what's going on in her life.
Even if you're IM'ing it doesn't mean you can't have meaningful conversations like I have with the teens: "Pick up your trash. Yes you *did* leave it there." etc
Seriously I don't dare IM or do anything that involves my personal life while I'm at work. I just don't want them prying into things. Doesn't your employer check where their employees go when they're online?
I think I get it. You can wear just about anything you want to the office, take a long lunch if you want it and everyone trusts you're going to get it done 'cause they sure don't how your system is set up. Yes?
As long as the pay is ok this sounds like a good job. Do you like it?

I did understand the part about "you don't have anything but the vaguest control" because I relate to that on a daily basis.
What do you do for a living??
