More about those crazy Canadians

I hear that the Canadian economy is doing just fine. For some reason their banks and investment people didn't go criminal/money-crazy and followed good old-fashioned sensible guidelines.

If it wasn't so cold and that Canada already told me they don't need more people like me, I'd move there.

Actually we just had a new budget proposal, after a brief vacation of Parliament, and they are proposing bread and circuses in the form of tax cuts, which will give lower income folks a bigger tax refund... Very much like the $300 or whatever all Americans got during Bush's second term. Or so I have heard. I don't actually read news, but I talk to people who do. =)

We don't have circuses so much but our politicians do plenty of grandstanding :)

Yeah it's my impression that the banking system here is more buttoned down than it is in the U.S. Not knowing very much about the U.S. banking system however that is just speculation.
And I think the economy is the better for it, but I wouldn't say it's 'fine' just at the moment. There are a lot of folks working for U.S. based companies here, like the one my hubby just got laid off from. And they just cut 20% of their staff worldwide.
What I will say is that it seems like we Canadians are more conservative all around, making the economic situation less volatile.
But what is this about Canada told you we don't need you? Did you actually try to move here and get turned down?

I was thinking about it during the early Bush years. The Canadian gov had a questionnaire about talents, skills, education etc that I might bring to the country if I emigrated.

It turned out that people like me are a dime a dozen so they said "thanks but no thanks"

ah well
