What's the deal with tipping pennies? And more importantly, don't.

For those who don't know the custom, there's some secret language in the service industry where penny tips are concerned. Clearly, a tip consisting only of pennies is a bad sign, but I'm referring to the case where there's a real tip, and additionally either one or two pennies conspicuously placed on the table. Well then! Good to know my customers don't hate me. :)

I still think it's weird that customers regularly send signals that are totally inscrutable to people in the industry.

I can't remember ever having read this before and I'll have to double check that you're on my friends list. We met once years ago. It's ok that you don't remember - I can be pretty forgettable. But, like, write more. You write well. Tell me more stories! :D
