Unintentional Holiday

Well, I kind of haven't gotten much -- OK, anything-- done for the past couple days. Eva came to visit me and Matthieu; we met up on Wednesday evening, and after a full day of classes and whatnot on Thursday, I pretty much took Friday off. Then I spent most of yesterday shopping for and then preparing a big dinner for Aled and Barbara and Eva -- ( Read more... )

Your dinner... the_perfesser February 21 2011, 00:07:17 UTC
...sounds delicious. Are you going meatless these days? Your mom has been fixing boeuf a la mode all day, so the house smells wonderful. It has a whole bottle of red wine in it, so presumably the boeuf has been enjoying the experience as well. Insofar as possible.

I finished Evie's "Bailey chair" last night, but the thing is so big that we are going to have to get rid of something else in the kitchen to make room for it.

Your mom returned last night from two weeks of caring for Ellie as Kate started back to work after maternity leave expired. It is good to have her back.

No, we're still meat-eaters, but Aled's a vegetarian and Barbara keeps kosher, so we figured a meat-free parve/dairy combination was a good direction to steer the meal in. I've never had boef a la mode -- it sounds like it's beef with ice cream! I'll check out the recipe, though :)

I had to google what a bailey chair was -- pretty cool device! Does Evie hop happily into it, or does she take some coaxing?

I bet mom is glad to be back! It sounded like she was having a great time, but that it was pretty tiring. How's Katie holding up?

1. It is just a fancy name for pot roast. Does suggest ice cream, though, doesn't it.

2. I put Evie into the Bailey chair while it was still under construction to make sure she'd fit; she hasn't actually been in it for a meal yet. She does get her bottom excitedly into the car seat we've been using. Associates it with meatballs!

I don't really know how Katie is holding up. I remember from the corresponding time in my own life that on some days I was right up to the point at which I felt I couldn't take any more. But then the weekend comes or the kid recovers or whatever the problem was gets resolved and you carry on. It is another matter for folks like your mom and me. Less stamina.

Linguistic note of the day: "Gerrymander": after Elbridge Gerry, a politician whose specially drawn congressional district turned out to look like a salamander.
