Wednesday was RANCH DAY. Randy discovered in Issaquah (his town near Seattle) that an acquaintance had a ranch in the Texas panhandle, and he put Randy in touch with Chance Bowers, his ranch manager. The Palo Duro canyon was created by the north fork of the Red River, one of those rivers in Texas, after a particularly rainy March, that actually had water in it. (The Canadian river, which we crossed a couple of times later in the week, as far as I could tell, was completely dry.) After a sleepless night--too much excitement, I guess, after Allen and Maura and the grandchildren came for dinner, too much food and drink, and I got to thinking about the trip to Texas--Beth and I leave at 4:45 a.m. and stop for coffee (and tea and cinnamon bun for her) at Valero, we get to Washington Reagan National Airport about 6:15. Well, folks, four days from this morning, Beth and I will be rising in the dark and making our way to Washington Reagan National Airport, where I'll be boarding a plane for Houston, there to transfer to one for Amarillo, Texas. So our first full day in Italy was Saturday. More graduation
Friday was a pleasant day. We all met at Eliot house and loaded up the car, which Molly and Matthieu took to Somerville and unloaded. Kate and Marc, Beth and I walked up to Bertucci's for a very good lunch. More shopping. Katie and Marc came back with us to our motel and we all had a nap. The holiday weekend
