Well, flist. I did it. It took two weeks, multiple confused stares from various friends/airport security guards and more than one headache but I did it. Yay!

Check out my reading list while I was on vacation:

Vampires and werewolves and klutzy girls, oh my! )

reading, twilight

Good for you! I've had several friends tell me I should read the Twilight Series, and several others tell me I would vomit if I did. ;) So . . . I'm still thinking about reading it. Maybe if I can find it on audiobook and listen to it while I quilt or something . . .

I'm no help with your requests, but thought you'd like to know that there is someone on your flist who is less well-versed in the Twilight universe than you. ;)

Hope you had a great vacation! :)

hee, I had that, too. Some say it's fantastic, some say it's awful. I think it manages to be both at the same time, honestly. An audiobook sounds like a good idea.

It was an excellent vacation, thank you! It was a beach trip so I had plenty of time to relax at the beach (under my GIANT hat because I hate sunburns) reading my vampire love story.

Ah Twilight...the first is really the only that worked for me. The other ones, er, too much, Edward's obsessiveness and Bella's life revolving around her cold marble statue of perfection boyfriend, couldn't get into that. I did like Jacob though for the most part even though he was annoying at times but he was real to me at least. I was considering reading Breaking Dawn but my sister read it recently and told me about it and now I can't bring myself to read it now. Admittedly, I grew fond of Jasper after he reading Eclipse and learning about his good ol' boy background but movie Jasper had issues and movie Edward looked more like he had some severe social disorder that made him extremely awkward in all the scenes with Bella especially the early ones. But I'll probably end up watching New Moon too.

I definitely agree, Edward is way too obsessive and it's pathetic how dependent Bella is on him. I skimmed the parts that focused too much on that, though, and focused on the other characters so that made it better.

Movie Edward was awkward. I mean, I'm gonna watch New Moon too, but I kinda view this whole franchise as more of a comedy than a sweeping romantic epic, so I loved the movie version of Twilight. It was very entertaining.

. I want to know, please, of my friends who have read all four books: What is your favorite?

Twilight, definitely. It was the first and the one that hooked me onto the series. I liked Breaking Dawn quite a bit for the hilarity that was Bella's pregnancy (am I horrible to have spent that whole part chuckling?) but the beginning and ending were both flat, so nope, I'm picking Twilight.

And fic, eh?

I think I recced you some beforehand, so I won't repeat those. Here are some more ... some are drabbles, though, which are just enough to whet your appetite with their bite-sized goodness!

Non-romantic Emmett fic:

Emmett's Entertainment by javidan

My boy Emmett by forever_dawn78

Punchy by sillysun22

Trespasses by eumelkeks

Edward's bachelor party:

Boys Night Out by willowwand (I think you'll adore this one - not only is it Edward's bachelor party, there is Emmett awesomeness included!)

Rosalie during Breaking Dawn:

An Unexpected Phone Call by willowwand

Alice's reaction to her human past:

Unburied by scarlett71177 (Okay, this isn't quite Alice's reaction, but it's a beautiful drabble, ( ... )

Oh, I knew I could count on you! Thank you! I've just read them all and of course I loved them. Emmett FTW!

No, no, I don't think it's horrible to chuckle at parts of these books. :) I agree, Breaking Dawn was pretty funny at some parts. But it's weird how differently people react to things. A friend of mine was reading the series with me and she freaked out during the pregnancy part. We were at the airport and I had my camera so I took pictures of her grimacing and clutching things and holding her hands over her mouth as she read it. She kept moaning that it was "sooo stressful." People stared at us.

Yeah, Twilight was addicting. I was thinking I would only read the one book but of course I had to read the whole series after I started. Hee, such is life.

And I love the way Stephanie Meyer showed the passage of time with the pages that were only months.

I'd forgotten about that! I remember thinking that was a great idea too.

I still think Breaking Dawn is a load of crap, but I still have love for the first three, despite the blow they struck to women's lib everywhere. (I agree; fainting!Bella needs a reality check).

Bella was... well. Can't say I'm a Bella fan. The fainting and the swooning and the neediness was a little extreme.

Breaking Dawn seems like an odd way to leave a series and I honestly do not understand why the pregnancy had to be there. It felt like manufactured drama to me.

New Moon, by a large, large margin. And apparently I am in the minority (at least among my RL friends), but I completely fell in love with Jacob. I knew there was no way he would end up with Bella, but I was rooting for him the entire time anyway.

And I'll second your comment on showing the passage of time with pages that were only months - I thought that was a wonderful touch. I'm not a huge fan of her writing (even though the series was incredibly addictive), but I thought that was a beautiful way of getting that lonely passing of time across.

I loved Jacob a lot at the beginning (earning me a baleful you would from a rl friend) but he started to lose me as the series went on. Something about how he interacted with Bella was almost embarrassing for me to read; I wanted him to pull himself together and just get over her already. Just my two cents, of course.
