Scarlett is NOT on the list.

I just finished watching Gone with the Wind and I'm fighting the urge to throw things just like they did in the movie. Wow. I sat through FOUR HOURS to get that MISERABLE EXCUSE of an ending? I am not pleased. I am not pleased at all ( Read more... )

There is a sequel... in book form... which isn't nowhere as good, but does have a happier ending...

Was that a real sequel or something like "pro" fanfic?

NOT a real sequel, because it's not be margaret mitchell but her estate hired someone to write a sequel

Huh. Very interesting. Do you know if they based it on anything Margaret Mitchell was planning to do or did they just decided it needed a sequel and went for it?

hee! Your daughter is a wise child.

I could be pulling things from thin air, but do I remember you liking it? Someone did something with a quote from the movie, was that you?

Actually, I did. But I can totes understand hating the ending. I liked the book ever so much better because all of those horrible things she said were thought instead of uttered, so when she was revealed as who she really was it was a shock.

Why is this a classic?

I can't tell you why the movie is a classic, because I'm not at all fond of it, but I can urge you to read the book. It's sooooooooo much better. In fact, I read the book before I saw the movie all the way through, which added to my disappointment.

A couple of you have said that now and I do have the book already but... I'm scared. I rather disliked Scarlett in the movie. Maybe I'll read it later but at the moment I think I need a break from her.

And ALSO - you seem to go for the more quirky, slightly peripheral characters. :)

This is true. I guess a little goes a long way for me, no need to like the main characters.

Well, looking at Luna, Alice, Polly, and Laura, I'll say you love the girls who are seen as quirky by the others in the book, but who are strong, loyal, and have hearts of gold!

Aw, they do have hearts of gold, don't they? And Laura Ingalls Wilder FTW!
