Some days I wake up and everything I do seems like a backlash to the knowledge, the opulent inference, that it’s all wrong. It’s hard to ignore on some days because the casualties are smiling at me; they’re shifting and steering down the same road as me, into the sunset of a meltdown.

This ephemeral ball of nothing, floating in the cosmos. ( Read more... )

But that's what you're *supposed* to think p1ague March 4 2004, 20:18:47 UTC
Of course you can change things.. if you're the 1 in a billion who happens to be able to. If enough of us are too discouraged by the odds, they're safe. History does show us some seemingly insignificant events that changed everything. Or one scientific discovery..

I don't know, anything and everything. You think there's some exterior force causing the human world to be what it is? It's all people, acting individually. (If you really want one, consider, say.. Jesus. I mean shit, while it may not have been predictably the way he would have wanted, there are huge repercussions even today. ..I really should wait to respond until a more.. modern example comes to mind, but; well, I'm too lazy to do research ;P)
Imagine how things today would change if we had an unlimited source of fuel.. or if reconfiguring atoms were a reality (completely changing the economic "material possessions" system..) Not all changes can be resisted.

Anyway, don't get me wrong, I do believe the sky is falling, I just don't think that making a nice soft spot on the ground to lay down and watch it is the way to go. There ARE changes you can make, while nearly inconsequential, in that little bubble, which may--while not necessarily making it more comfortable--increase (though negligibly) the chance of things outside changing. All society has that same big tilling process, each is dependent upon a whole lot of little pieces. You're one of them, and complacency is the common thread of that festering process, turning us into toxins instead of fertilizer. (or vice versa depending how one chooses the axis of "progress".) But as always, you must know all this already..
