HBO "Game of Thrones"

 I absolutely had to watch the premiere episode last night. I've anticipated this since it was announced although time seems to have flown by and here it is, already on the air. I was not disappointed, although I was not dazzled beyond expectations either. The first book built slowly for me and this opening episode had the same effect ( Read more... )

There is quite a lot of rape in the books, as I recall, but it doesn't happen to anyone in the regular cast. At least so far.

I haven't seen the show, but if you are talking about D's wedding night, in that scene in the book her new husband seemed to make a special effort to make it pleasurable for her. So if that scene felt rapelike, that's definitely a departure.

I recall lots of sex, probably some rape, but I never felt it was gratuitous. As for D's wedding night, I recall the same as you, but they cut away from the scene leaving the viewer with a quite different impression. It may turn out that things will progress more romantically but in the meantime, viewers will assume the worst.
